William "Bill" Wendell Cheney Sr.

William "Bill" Wendell Cheney Sr., 97, of North Attleboro, MA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 2, 2020 at Madonna Manor Nursing Home in North Attleboro. He was the beloved husband of the late Gloria J. Cheney whom he married on July 2, 1971 and who died on June 4, 2016, and the late Mary (D'Amico) Cheney whom he married in 1946 and who died on April 1, 1970.
Born on December 1, 1922 in Boston, MA, he was the son of the late Herbert L. Cheney and the late Alice A. (Keating) Cheney.
Bill proudly and honorably served our country in the United States Marines as a Gunnery Sergeant during World War II and the Korean War.
He worked for many years for the Plympton Press in Norwood, MA, and as a Teacher in the print shop for the Florida Prison System, before retiring in 1991.
A resident of North Attleboro since 1992, he previously lived in Zeffer Hills, Florida.
Bill was an avid sports fan of most every type, having cherished the memory of having once passed the baseball with the great Ted Williams. His most treasured times, though, were spent with his family.
He was the loving father of William Wendell Cheney Jr. and his wife, Lorraine (Coccoluto) Cheney, of Morgantown, PA, and Patricia M. Olsen and her husband, Glenn C. Olsen, of Norfolk, MA. He was the proud grandfather of Aaron Olsen, Kristen (Cheney) de Zeeu and William Cheney III ; and the adoring great-grandfather of five great-grandchildren.
Private Graveside Services with Military Honors will be privately held on Monday, August 2, 2021 in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
