William Chauncy Paynton

February 20, 1925 — March 16, 2016

William Chauncy Paynton, 91, of North Attleboro, passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro, MA. He was the beloved husband of the late Valrie Sindt Paynton who passed away on August 6, 2014.Born on February 20, 1925 in Jersey City, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Harold Paynton and the late Mary (Zaremba) Paynton.William proudly and honorably served our country in the United States Navy. He was a graduate of Manasquan High School (NJ) and Lafayette College. With his degree in Metallurgical Engineering in hand, Bill moved to Boston, where he worked at MIT and met his future wife whom he married in 1951. The couple moved to North Attleboro in 1956, where William worked for many years at Texas Instruments as a distinguished metallurgist. Bill was responsible for the development of the cupronickel dime and quarter which was introduced in 1965 to replace the silver in those denominations. In 1971, Bill founded Improved Consumer Products Inc. (ICP), which continues to thrive and grow today. Bill was a lifelong and active member of the Republican Party. He was a member of the North Attleboro Finance Committee in the late 1960's and early 1970's. He was a member of the Hope Club and the University Club in Providence, RI, as well as the Wamsutta Club in New Bedford, MA. Bill enjoyed boating, fishing and traveling with his wife and friends. Throughout his life, Bill was intrigued with solving technical problems. His ever active mind was always learning and growing. He was a kind man with a very strong work ethic and an engaging personality. His greatest pride and accomplishment was his family. He especially treasured his time spent with his grandchildren.He was an endearing father to Lynda Valrie (Paynton) O'Brien of North Attleboro, MA; Robert W. Paynton of Cranston, RI; Richard H Paynton of North Attleboro, MA; and Pamela L. Paynton of South Dartmouth, MA. He leaves his cherished grandchildren: David O'Brien, Timothy O'Brien, Alexander Paynton, Taylor (Paynton) Potter, Valrie Paynton, and Mia Paynton; two great-grandchildren: Jack O'Brien and Graham O'Brien; a sister-in-law: Doreen Paynton; a brother-in-law: Arthur Hibray and many nieces, nephews, as well as extended family and dear friends.He was the twin brother of the late Harold G. Paynton, and the brother of the late Richard D. Paynton and the late Natalie (Paynton) Brooks.Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a Visitation on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, MA.Friends and family are cordially invited to attend a Funeral Service on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, MA.Children's room is available during visitation and funeral services.Those in need of a local ride to visitation may call the funeral home at (508) 695-0200 to make an advance reservation for such complimentary transportation.
