William "Bill" Michael Haggerty

January 29, 1949 — August 14, 2016

William "Bill" Michael Haggerty, 67, passed away on the morning of August 14, 2016 of natural causes at his home in Summerfield, FL, surrounded by family and friends. Bill was born in Methuen, MA on January 29, 1949, the only child of the late Frank A. Haggerty and the late Mary (Topping) Haggerty of Salisbury, MA.He grew up in Salisbury and graduated first in his class from Governor Dummer Academy, now known as The Governor's Academy, a highly selective, co-educational, independent boarding preparatory school, in 1967. He then went on to attend Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he graduated with a BS in Political Science in 1971. Bill also attended the Boston College Law School.Bill started his career working at the Office of Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), as a Bank Examiner, from 1973-1980. He loved to tell stories about his tenure with the OCC, especially some of the shenanigans that he and fellow bank examiners pulled. He then went into the banking industry, specializing in Precious Metals. In 2009, he and longtime friend and business colleague, John Sylvestri, opened Material Sampling Technologies (MST). They eventually sold the company to Precious LKQ Metals, where he worked until 2012, when he retired. Bill then moved to Florida, as he was tired of the New England winters.Family was vitally important to Bill. During their growing-up years, being actively involved with his son Michael Haggerty and Erin (Haggerty) Capuzzo brought him much pride and joy. He loved to recall the antics of their everyday lives, oft times taking great pleasure reminding them of things that occurred; scouting, baseball, camping, father/daughter dances, a peanut butter sandwich that got "played" in a VCR, a dollar bill stuffed into a Sake decanter (which no one has been able to retrieve since), just to name a few. He is survived by his wife Lynn Haggerty of Summerfield, FL; son Michael F. Haggerty and his wife, Nicole (Drape) Haggerty, of Attleboro, MA; daughter Erin (Haggerty) Capuzzo and her husband, Joseph Capuzzo, of Woonsocket, RI; and stepson Brett Wheeling and his wife, Stephanie (Jenkins) Wheeling of Kuna, ID. He was the grandfather of Caylee Jamnik and Alison Capuzzo of Woonsocket, RI; Joey Capuzzo of Millis, MA; and step-grandfather of Hal Wheeling of Kuna, ID.Friends and family are cordially invited to attend a Memorial Visitation on Thursday, September 1, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, ¾ mile on the left) Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro.Children's room is available during visitation and the funeral serviceA Memorial Service was held in Bill's honor for his Florida friends and family on August 18, 2016 in Oxford, Florida.
