William Edward Martell Sr.

March 21, 1943 — October 7, 2022

William "Bill" Edward Martell Sr., 79, of North Attleboro, MA, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 7, 2022, at home.  He was the beloved husband of Judith Ann (Plante) Martell, whom he married on September 7, 1963.
Born on March 21, 1943, in Pawtucket, RI, he was the son of the late Edward Napoleon Martell and the late Celia (Tetreault) Martell.
Raised and educated in Pawtucket, where he was a graduate of Pawtucket Vocational High School, Class of 1961, Bill obtained his commercial driver's license and was employed as a truck driver, primarily for New Penn Trucking, until retiring. He also worked alongside his father as a co-owner and operator of Martell's Texaco Station in Pawtucket.
A resident of North Attleboro for more than fifty years, he previously lived in East Providence and Pawtucket, RI.
Bill was a longtime proud member of Teamster Union 251, and a former member of the First Baptist Church of Pawtucket.  After his retirement, he enjoyed working as a groundskeeper at Heather Hill Country Club in Plainville, MA, and loved spending time on his "gentleman's farm" with his horses, cows, and other animals, and tending to his vegetable garden. Bill enjoyed listening to country music; riding his 2002 Harley-Davidson "Road King"; camping at Ginny-B in Foster, RI, and driving his Fifth Wheel camper up and down the coast; playing cards and billiards; and watching his son's motocross races. He loved to sing, especially karaoke.  He will fondly be remembered as often wearing a hat and suspenders and enjoying a good piece of peanut brittle.
In addition to his wife, Judith, he leaves his loving children:  Darlene Rose Martell and her fiancé, Richard Auen, of Bellingham, MA; William Edward "Billy" Martell Jr. and his wife, Christine Martell, of Cumberland, RI; Jeffrey Edward Martell and his girlfriend, Jane Gobin, of North Attleboro, MA; and Sharon (Plante) Brunelle and her husband, Raymond Brunelle of Attleboro, MA.  He was the proud and adoring grandfather of William Edward Martell III and Benjamin David Martell, both of Cumberland, RI, and Representative Adam J. Scanlon of North Attleboro, MA.  Bill was the dear brother of Linda McCluskey and her husband, Dennis, of North Attleboro, MA; Pauline Kean and her husband, Thomas, in Florida; Lois Perry and her husband, John, of North Smithfield, RI, and Florida; and the late Lucille Howarth.  He leaves several nieces and nephews, his extended family, many dear friends, and his cherished companion, his dog "Reba".
