William "Bill" Alfred Macomber, 81, of Rehoboth, MA passed away surrounded by his loving family on Friday, November 5th, 2021, at his residence. He was the beloved husband of Linda Grace (Liddell) Macomber to whom he was married on October 15th, 1982.
Born in Fall River, MA on January 21, 1940, a son of the late Alfred and Gertrude Macomber.
He was raised and educated in Somerset, MA where he was a 1957 graduate of Somerset High School.
Mr. Macomber proudly served his country by enlisting in the United States Navy and served honorably for 4 years prior to his discharge.
He began his career as a police officer with the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington,DC. During that time he served on a police detail for the Washington Redskins, who were his favorite football team. He later moved to Plainville, MA, where he served the town as a police sergeant for 10 years. He retired in 2000 from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, having retired as a Correctional Officer from the Walpole State Prison where he worked for many years. Following his retirement and moving to Cape Cod, Mr. Macomber worked for Air Grilles, LLC in South Yarmouth, MA for four years.
A resident of Rehoboth, MA for the past 13 years, he previously resided in South Yarmouth and South Attleboro, MA.
He treasured the times spent saltwater fishing; camping, particularly at Horseneck Campground and Myles Standish State Park; weekend road trips especially to Niagara Falls, New York and New Jersey; and dancing to the music of the 50's and 60's.
In addition to his wife of almost 40 years, he leaves behind, daughter; Pamela Rosenblatt and her husband Stuart, of Clearwater, Florida; Stepsons: Scott Rushlow and his wife, Ellen Rushlow, of Dudley, MA; and Derek Rushlow and his girlfriend Katie Prime Cassidy of Brimfield, MA; and his sister, Judith Sweet and her husband, William Sweet, of Deland, Florida. Mr. Macomber was predeceased by his brother Robert Macomber. He also leaves behind many extended family members and dear friends.
Family and friends are cordially invited to attend Visitation with Veteran's Honors and Correctional Officer Honor Guard on Monday, November 15, 2021, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. In the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, MA.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend the Funeral Service and Celebration of Life Service with Veteran Honors on Monday, November 15, 2021, at 1 p.m. in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro, Falls, North Attleboro, MA.
Following services, an invitation will be made to join the family for a time of continued fellowship and refreshments at a location to be announced.
An invitation is extended to join the family for committal services on Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at 2:15 p.m. at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA. Military honors will be bestowed in honor of Bill's service to our country.
