William Thomas Hocking

February 19, 1932 — December 22, 2012

William Thomas "Bill" Hocking, 80 of Norton, died on Saturday, December 22, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton. He was the husband of Ida M. (Mason-Savini) Hocking to whom he was married in Attleboro on February 9, 1980. Born in Attleboro, Massachusetts on February 19, 1932, he was a son of the late George P. and Agnes (Cooper) Hocking. Mr. Hocking enlisted in the United States Air Force on May 12, 1951 and served admirably for twenty years until his retirement. Following his retirement, Mr. Hocking owned and operated Hocking Dental Labs in both Massachusetts and Rhode Island. He cherished his annual trips to Cape Cod with his family and his years spent in Spain. An avid reader, he enjoyed politics and history but mostly he enjoyed any environment filled with family and laughter. He will be lovingly remembered as a loving and gentle man not only by his family but all who knew him. Mr. Hocking was a member of the B.P.O.E. Elks - Attleboro Chapter, the Norton American Legion and attended Second Congregational Church, Attleboro. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two sisters: Shirley Straight of Attleboro and Norma Ramsey of Bradenton, Florida; his children and stepchildren: Steve Glamuzina of Chicopee; Teresa Urbinati and her husband, Nick, of Feeding Hills; Debbie Hershy of Tiburon, California; Darlene Howe and her husband, Bill, of Chicopee; Scott Hocking and his wife, Kathy, of North Andover; Robert Savini and significant other, Charlene, of Marlboro; Steven Savini and wife, Linda, of Stoughton; Wayne Savini and his wife, Melissa, of Taunton; Donald Savini and his wife, Tammie, of Madison, New Hampshire; William Savini, Jr. and his wife, Barbara, of Easton and Sandra McGrath and her husband, Rick, of Henderson, Nevada. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, step grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers: Richard, Donald, Edmund and Robert; sister: Iona Gillis and his stepson: David Glamuzina. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation with Veteran's Honors on Friday, December 28, 2012 from 4:00 - 7:00 PM in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the nationally historic "Colonel Obed Robinson Home", 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right, mile on the left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. Children's room available during visitation and the funeral service. Those in need of a ride to visitation may call the funeral home at (508) 695-0200 to make an advance reservation for such gratis local transportation. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend the Funeral Service on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at 10:00 AM in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the nationally historic "Colonel Obed Robinson Home", 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right, mile on the left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro with the Rev. F. Vernon Wright, Pastor of the Second Congregational Church, Attleboro, officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in North Purchase Cemetery, Attleboro. Following cemetery services an invitation will be extended to join the family for a time of continued fellowship and refreshments at a location to be announced.
