William Francis Fitzpatrick, Sr., 78, of Hancock Street, Plainville, died on Friday, April 1, 2011 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Helen B. (Kiggen) Fitzpatrick to whom he was married on July 17, 1954. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on April 22, 1932, he was a son of the late Francis William and Eleanor (Dromey) Fitzpatrick. He was raised and educated in Boston where he was a 1949 graduate of Hyde Park High School. Following high school, Mr. Fitzpatrick enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and proudly served during the Korean War era from 1950 until his honorable discharge in 1954. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart and the Gold Star for his heroic actions. A resident of Plainville for the past six years, Mr. Fitzpatrick previously resided in North Attleboro for 15 years and in Randolph for 27 years. He was employed as a supervisor for the United States Postal Service for more than 30 years and had served at the Newton-Wellesley, Needham, Waban and Chestnut Hill post offices. Mr. Fitzpatrick was the cofounder and operator of Fitzys Pub in Plainville for 27 years. He was a member of the North Attleboro Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 1011. While residing in Randolph, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus Vera Cruz Council #129, the Kiwanis Club and served as the president of the Randolph Little League organization. In earlier years he was a member of a softball league, enjoyed bowling and treasured the times teaching and mentoring his grandchildren. In addition to his wife of 56 years, he leaves two children: William F. Fitzpatrick, Jr. and his wife, Susan M. (Buehrle) Fitzpatrick, of Plainville and Lynne A. Haberek and her husband, Michael Habarek, of Norton; nine grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; a sister: Claire Kinneen of Salem, New Hampshire and several extended family members and friends. Thomas L. Rita, Pastor of Our Lady Queen of Martyrs, Seekonk, officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Boston. Following cemetery services an invitation will be extended to join the family for a time of continued fellowship and refreshments at a location to be announced.
