William Harold Delorey

William Harold Delorey, 86, of Sandcastle Estates, Mendon Road, South Attleboro, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 15, 2011 at the Life Care Center of Attleboro surrounded by the love of his wife and niece, Jeanne Hanrahan of St. George, Utah. He was the loving husband and best friend of Mary E. George to whom he was married for 26 years. He was the husband of the late Hazel Sis (Magloin) Delorey. Born in Quincy, Massachusetts on March 15, 1925, he was a son of the late Charles Simon and Matilda (Cormier) Delorey. Bill was raised and educated in Quincy and Boston. Bill was a veteran of the United States Army having proudly served from his entry on July 7, 1943 until his honorable discharge on December 5, 1945. He served as a member of the 2nd Armored Division in the European Theatre of Operations. He was the recipient of the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon, the Victory Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the Belgian Fourragere Medal. He participated in battles and campaigns in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. He resided in Attleboro for the past 11 years having previously resided in Franklin and Boston. For more than 32 years, Bill was employed at St. Johnsbury Trucking as a member of the Teamsters Local 25 prior to his retirement. He was the retired manager of St. Jay Federal Credit Union. Following his retirement, Bill returned to work and was employed as a clerk for Putnam Investments in Franklin. Bills favorite pastimes included fishing, reading, dancing, solving crossword puzzles and playing poker. He enjoyed dining out, vacationing with his wife and friends and drinking beer. In addition to his wife of 26 years, he leaves a son: Edward Skip Delorey of Carver; two grandsons: Erik Delorey and his wife, Kristina Delorey, of Wilmington and SGT Adam Delorey, Sr., U.S. Army, and his wife, Michelle Delorey, stationed in Germany; four great grandchildren: Justin Delorey and Ella Delorey both of Wilmington and Adam Delorey, Jr. and Nathan Delorey both in Germany; a sister: Irene Woodford Padden of Holbrook; a brother: William Aucoin of Hull and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation with Veterans Honors on Thursday, May 19, 2011 from 8:30 10:15 AM in the Memorial Chapel of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, mile on left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend the funeral service with Veterans Honors on Thursday, May 19, 2011 at 10:15 AM from the Memorial Chapel of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, mile on left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Church, Baltic Street, South Attleboro with the Rev. Jon-Paul Gallant, Pastor, officiating. Military honors in recognition of Mr. Deloreys service to his country will commence at the conclusion of the funeral Mass. Burial will be private in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. Childrens room available during visitation and while the funeral cortege is being organized prior to the funeral Mass. Following church services, family and friends will be invited to join the family for a time of continued fellowship and refreshments at a location to be announced. Please omit flowers.
