William M. Copley, Sr.

July 5, 1930 — June 9, 2023

William "Bill" Morgan Copley, Sr., 92, of North Attleboro, MA, a loving family man, passed away on Friday, June 9, 2023, at his residence surrounded by the love of his family. He was the husband of Rita C. (Burk) Copley to whom he was married on October 30, 1954.
Born in Lowell, MA on July 5, 1930, he was one of two twin boys born to the late Thomas Copley and Mary (Morgan) Copley. He graduated from Lowell Technical Institute with a degree in chemistry.
He was a proud veteran of the United States Army having served from his enlistment in Lowell, MA on October 20, 1953, until his honorable discharge in Fort Dix, New Jersey on October 19, 1955.
Mr. Copley was employed as a chemist and then executive for the former Shipley Company that later became Dow Chemical. He retired in 1992 following 27 years of employment.
A man of strong religious convictions, he was a communicant of St. Mark's Church in Attleboro Falls, MA for many years (which is now the Transfiguration of the Lord Church in North Attleboro, MA).  He also enjoyed visiting the National Shrine of Our Lady of La Salette in Attleboro, MA. While residing in Florida, Mr. Copley and his wife attended the St. Vincent Ferrer Roman Catholic Church.
As an avid golfer, He was a former member of the Foxborough Country Club.  Bill was a spreader of joy.  His true gift was sharing his love through making others laugh.  His blue eyes twinkled whenever he told a joke - which was daily.
In addition to his wife of almost 69 years, he leaves his loving children: Christopher W. Copley and his wife, Teddy deCaro Copley, of Mansfield, MA; Sandra A. Copley Menard and her husband, J. David Menard, of South Attleboro, MA; Brian J. Copley and his wife, Kristine Copley, of Falmouth, MA; Jennifer Copley Downing and her husband, David Downing, of Upton, MA; John S. Copley and his wife, Lorita Copley, of Hopkinton, MA and William M. Copley, Jr. of North Attleboro, MA.
He was the cherished grandfather of 13 grandchildren; Kathryn and her husband, Eric, Colleen and her husband, Matt, Jenna, Adam, Mackenzie, Michaela, Shane, Kendall, Sean, Kyle, Nathan, William, and Rachel.
He is survived by his siblings: Robert Copley of Tom's River, New Jersey and Ann Swiderski of Dracut, MA.
Bill was predeceased by his siblings: John Copley, Eileen McCarron, Thomas Copley, Claire Piekarski, Mary Campbell and Walter (Chris) Copley and James Copley.
In addition he leaves generations of nieces and nephews, extended family members and many dear friends.
Family and friends are cordially invited to attend Bill's Visitation with Veteran's Honors on Thursday, June 15, 2023, from 8:00 am - 9:30 am in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, North Attleboro, MA followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at the Transfiguration of the Lord Parish at St. Mark's, 105 Stanley Street, North Attleboro. Graveside services with military honors will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, North Attleboro.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Bill's name may be made to the National Shrine of Our Lady of La Salette, 947 Park Street, Attleboro, MA 02703 or to a charity of their choice.
