William A. Brennan, Sr., 86, of Canterbury Woods, Garfield Avenue, Attleboro, died on Thursday, May 31, 2012 at his residence surrounded by his loving family following a long illness. He was the husband of Alice Marion (Lindberg) Brennan to whom he was married on August 2, 1952. Born in Providence, Rhode Island on April 23, 1926, he was a son of the late James F. and Bridget J. (Sharkey) Brennan. Raised and educated in Providence, Mr. Brennan was a graduate of LaSalle Academy. He was a 1950 graduate of Manhattan College and earned his master's degree in electrical engineering from Northeastern University. Mr. Brennan proudly served with the United States Navy from his enlistment on June 16, 1944 until his honorable discharge on February 20, 1946. Among his honors and citations, he was the recipient of the Bronze Star. Mr. Brennan was employed by the Raytheon Corporation for 32 years prior to his retirement in 1988 as the manager of the Microwave and Power Tube Division. A resident of Attleboro since 2004, he previously resided in Brewster for more than 15 years and had raised his family in Norwood. He was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church in Attleboro where he was a member of the church choir. His favorite pastimes included gardening, woodworking and singing. In addition to his wife of almost 60 years, he leaves six children: Patricia A. Brennan of Billerica; Dr. William A. Brennan, Jr. of Cumberland, Maine; Barbara F. Driscoll of North Attleboro; Lorraine M. Brennan of London, England; Maureen E. Hughes of North Easton and Susan I. Brennan in New York; 8 grandchildren; a brother: James Brennan of Cumberland, Rhode Island and several nieces, nephews and extended family members. He was the brother of the late Marguerite Hackett, Kathleen Brennan and Joseph Brennan. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation with Veteran's Honors on Tuesday, June 5, 2012 from 5:00 - 8:00 PM in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral on Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at 9:45 AM from the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at St. John the Evangelist Church, 133 North Main Street - Route 152, Attleboro with the Rev. Richard Roy, Pastor, officiating. Bagpiper and military honors will be bestowed in front of the church at the conclusion of services. Inurnment will be private at the Massachusetts National Cemetery Columbarium, Bourne. An invitation will be extended to join the family for a time of continued fellowship and refreshments at a location to be announced.
