William "Bill" Morris Balch passed away on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at Wingate at Norton, MA. He is survived by Barbara, his dedicated wife of 68 years.Born on December 28, 1924 in Pittsburgh, PA, Bill spent his early years in the Philadelphia area. Before graduating from Swarthmore High School in 1942, he developed a life-long love of running as a member of the track team. He was proud to be a Boy Scout and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.Bill was a Bomber Pilot in WWII with the 416th Bomb Group. He flew an A-26 Invader over Germany. After his Military Service he returned to marry Barbara Ann Evans, both of Rutledge, PA.Bill graduated in 1951 from Drexel University with a BA in Civil Engineering. Thus beginning a lengthy career in Construction Project Management. His work took him to Georgia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Ohio, North Carolina, Wisconsin and Massachusetts. His longest employment was with Gilbane out of Rhode Island where he worked on the T.F. Green Airport expansion and did not retire until the age of 82.Bill Balch was one of the good guys - honest, reliable, hard-working and always willing to lend a hand. He enjoyed tennis, running and a cold beer. His life was enriched by the love of his family, yearly beach vacations, music and nature,especially cats. Some of his happiest moments were spent at the Jersey shore or Nova Scotia listening to the sound of the surf.He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Barbara Ann (Evans) Balch, two daughters, Michelle Ann (Balch) Bisceglia and her husband Lenny of Waterbury Center, VT, Beverly Ann (Balch) Baker and her husband Geof of Midlothian, VA, two granddaughters, Allison (Baker) and her husband Randy White, Vee Baker and great grandson, Seamus. Bill was the son of the late Dean and Marcia Balch, the brother of the late Bob Balch.A celebration of his life will be at a later date.The Balch family would like to thank the staff of Wingate at Norton and Compassionate Care Hospice.Donations in his honor can be made to Compassionate Care Hospice, Taunton, MA at
