Wilbrod D. Gravel, 61, of South Attleboro, MA, passed away at home peacefully on August 10, 2022, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born in Central Falls, Rhode Island, on January 15, 1961, he was the son of Therese (Cote) Gravel of Attleboro, MA. and the late Wilbrod Dolor Gravel. Raised and educated in Attleboro, he remained a lifelong resident of South Attleboro. He was a 1979 graduate of Attleboro High School and attended Community College of Rhode Island and Rhode Island College.
Mr. Gravel worked for Sonoco Products, Baker Division, for over 20-years as Service Center Manager for the assembly, distribution and warehousing of reels for the cable industry. For the past 11 years until his death, he was self-employed as the owner of Reel New England Inc., in Smithfield, Rhode Island, servicing the same company and industry.
Mr. Gravel was a big sports fan, played football in high school, and instilled sports discipline as part of his children's growth. You could find him cheering and coaching from the sidelines at all of their games. He also coached his children who played for Attleboro Youth Soccer for many years. He was very involved in every aspect of his children's lives.
He attended for many years the Lincoln Seventh-Adventist Church with his family, where his wife is a current member.
Mr. Gravel was an avid pool player; you could find him participating at events with the Attleboro Elks Lodge.
He treasured his time spent outdoors enjoying the beach, campfires, walks, golfing, biking, fishing, boating, gardening - growing the juiciest tomatoes and organic vegetables, and traveling to his house in New Hampshire and the Dominican Republic.
He was the husband of Belkis (Mota) Gravel to whom he was married for 35 years. In addition to his wife and mother, he leaves four children: Tanya M. Gravel and her wife, Jessica L. Gravel, of Riverside, Rhode Island; Kiara N. Gravel and her husband, Adam J. Johnson, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Teana K. Gravel and her fiancé, Louis "Leo" Mariere, of Windsor, Connecticut and Joshua W. Gravel of South Attleboro, MA; his siblings: Diane Coutu of Attleboro, MA; Eileen Parisi of South Attleboro, MA; Denise Blanchette of Seekonk, MA; and Robert Gravel of Rehoboth, MA; his late brother Vincent Gravel; his best friend who was like a brother: Mark Steitz of Ayer, MA; and as an animal lover, mostly of dogs, he was the companion to "Jada" and the late "Jamie", and his "granddogs": Shiloh, Kota, Prancer, Cairo and Cleo.
He also leaves many nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
Visitation has respectfully been omitted.
Mr. Gravel's wish was to have a "green burial", and in accordance with his wishes, relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a Celebration of Life Service on Friday, August 19, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. in the Historic Chapel of Swan Point Cemetery, 585 Blackstone Boulevard, Providence, Rhode Island. Following chapel services, an invitation will be extended to the adjacent reception hall to greet the family following their graveside service in the green space section of the cemetery.
Please do not send Wilbrod's family flowers, and do not send them to services.
In lieu of flowers, a scholarship fund will be created in Mr. Gravel's honor for Attleboro High School students who wish to major in degrees relating to the sciences. You can donate via the link for the GoFundMe account and or make a check payable to Tanya Gravel. Cash donations can be made at the memorial service.
