Wayne Arthur Darling, 49, of Walnut Street, Plainville and Merrimack Drive, Merrimack, NH, died suddenly yet peacefully on Monday, May 2, 2011 at the Veterans Administration Healthcare System in the West Roxbury section of Boston as he was surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Catherine E. (Farretta) Darling. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on March 10, 1962, he was a son of Norma L. (Geyer) Darling of Plainville and George Richard Darling and his wife, Thelma Darling, of Burlington, Massachusetts. Raised and educated in Plainville, Mr. Darling was a 1980 graduate of King Philip Regional High School in Wrentham. He proudly served in the United States Army from February 11, 1981 until his discharge on June 2, 1989. Mr. Darling was most recently employed by Allied Barton Protective Services, formerly Boston Properties Control Center, in Boston as the operations manager of the control center. From 2002-2003, Mr. Darling was employed as a mobile screening force implementation team member for the Transportation Security Administration. He was currently enrolled at ITT Tech studying computer game design. Mr. Darling resided in Merrimack, New Hampshire for 8 years prior to returning to his native community of Plainville in 2010. Prior to moving to New Hampshire, he was a resident of Wareham and North Attleboro. A man with a strong spiritual guidance, he was interested in Native American Indian Culture and expressed his artistic talents through his pastel and acrylic paintings and drawings. His artistic talents led to the pursuit of his career as a computer game design engineer. He loved fresh water fishing and was the winner of many fishing derbies. Among his other favorite pastimes were bird hunting and the traveling he was afforded during his tenure with the United States Army when stationed in Germany. He will be lovingly remembered for his warm personality and being a people person to everyone. In addition to his wife, mother, father and his fathers wife, he leaves three children: Chance Walker Darling of Merrimack, New Hampshire; Courtney Gomes of Lyndeborough, New Hampshire and Chelsea Kathman of Merrimack, New Hampshire; a granddaughter: Emily May Depont of Merrimack, New Hampshire; four sisters: Valerie J. Darling and her husband, Chester E. Stone, III, of Plainville; Karen L. Kenerson and her husband, Scott A. Kenerson, of Danielson, Connecticut; his twin: Wendy A. Darling of Plainville and MaryEllen Monty and her companion, Glenn Marble, of Falmouth; a brother: Mark S. Darling of Ennis, Montana and several nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation with Veterans Honors on Wednesday, May 11, 2011 from 5:00 8:00 PM in the Memorial Chapel of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, mile on left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. Those in need of a ride to visitation may simply call (508) 695-0200 to make an advance reservation for such gratis local transportation. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend the funeral service on Thursday, May 12, 2011 at 10:30 AM in the Memorial Chapel of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, mile on left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. Burial will follow at 12:45 PM in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. Following cemetery services an invitation will be extended to join the family for a time of continued fellowship and refreshments at a time and location to be announced. Childrens room available during visitation and the funeral service. Please omit flowers due to the limitation of flowers at the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Dyer-Lake Charitable Foundation, Inc., a registered 501 (c) 3 organization, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, North Attleboro, MA 02760 to benefit the patients at the Veterans Administration Healthcare System in honor of the attentive care provided to Mr. Darling.
