Walter Alfred Defrain

March 22, 1926 — July 29, 2023

Walter Alfred DeFrain, 97, of Attleboro, MA passed away on July 29, 2023, at HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice in Providence, Rhode Island, following a brief illness.  He was the loving and dear companion of the late Doris M. (Ahern) Fitzgerald who died on August 15, 2013, with whom he shared almost 30 years.  He was the husband of the late Virginia (Fidler) DeFrain who passed many years ago.
Born in Clyde, New York, on March 22, 1926, he was a son of the late Walter Harvey DeFrain and the late Ruth (Knecht) DeFrain.
Mr. Defrain was raised and educated in New York and was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps having served from November 9, 1944, until his honorable discharge on July 24, 1946 during World War II.
He was employed as a mechanical engineer for Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg, Florida for many years prior to his retirement.
His favorite pastimes included time spent fishing, playing golf, gardening, camping and projects in his workshop.
Left to mourn his loss are his daughter: Beverly Fucci and her husband, Michael Fucci. of Oshkosh, Wisconsin; his late companion's daughter: Linda Darling, with whom he resided in Attleboro, MA for over 15 years; several grandchildren; several great grandchildren and his beloved dog, "Benny".
He was the father of the late Melvin DeFrain and the late Philip DeFrain.
Family and friends are cordially invited to attend Visitation with Veteran's Honors on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, from 12:00 noon until 1:00 pm in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, MA.
Private burial with military honors will be held immediately at the conclusion of services at Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton, MA
In his memory, memorial donations may be made to either HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904 or to any non-profit animal shelter.
