Vivian Alice (St. Germain) Paradis, 92, of Attleboro, MA, passed away peacefully Monday, December 30, 2024, in West Edmeston, NY where she resided with her son and his family. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 66 years, Ernest Armand Paradis, to whom she was married on October 11, 1952.
Vivian was born on October 15, 1932, in Attleboro, MA and was the daughter of the late Ovida Arthur St. Germain and the late Aldea Arthemise (Aubin) St. Germain.
She lived most of her life as a resident of Attleboro, MA. She graduated salutatorian of the Class of 1950 from Attleboro High School and was a communicant of the former St. Stephen's Roman Catholic Church.
After graduation, Vivian first worked in the Billing Department at S.O. Bigneys and then at Attleboro Steam & Electric Company. Following her marriage to Ernest, she continued to work at Attleboro Steam and Electric and manage the household while Ernest fulfilled his commitment to military service in the United States Navy. Shortly after his discharge in March of 1955, she turned her focus to raising their children. She devoted all her efforts to providing a loving home and ensuring that her children had every opportunity to pursue their individual dreams. Vivian’s deep love for family drove her to create special memories and traditions that her children still cherish to this day. After the children had grown, Vivian returned to work as an Instructional Learning Assistant at Finberg Elementary School in Attleboro where she happily enjoyed working with young students for 20 years until her retirement in 1992.
Upon Vivian’s retirement, she and Ernest began the next chapter of their life together. They now had time to travel as they had always wanted to do. They put many miles on their favorite car as they drove cross-country to visit the places they had dreamed about. Vivian packed all the essentials (and then some) into the car and off they went, camping along the way with a rare extravagance of a night in a hotel.
When not traveling, Vivian perfected the sewing skills she had learned from her mother and created specially designed quilts for her family that are cherished by the recipients. Highlights of her retirement years include the highly competitive Scrabble games that she and Ernest enjoyed daily along with a passion for jigsaw puzzles.
Vivian enjoyed any occasion when family gathered and was happiest when her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren surrounded the kitchen table. Whatever the reason for the gathering, good food would be always served, followed by some “healthy” competition and generous amounts of laughter.
Vivian leaves her cherished children: Diane Duffey and her husband, Steven, of Wrentham, MA, and their children: Jennifer, Michael, and Christine; Pamela Walkowiak and her husband, Steven, of Olivebridge, NY, and their children: Robert and Stephanie; Kenneth Paradis and his wife, Diane, of Auburn, MA, and their children: Eric and Victoria; Michael Paradis and his wife, Marie, of West Edmeston, NY, and their children: Jason, Rachel, and Samantha; and Carol Riordan and her husband, James, of Martinez, GA, and their children: Amy and James. She was the proud great-grandmother of Tyler, Sara, Riley, Harper, Evelyn, Freya, Eloise and Maddox. Vivian was predeceased by her brother, Norman E. St. Germain.
A private family service will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2025, in the “Commonwealth Chapel” of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, MA, followed by a graveside service in St. Stephen's Cemetery, Attleboro, MA.
