Virginia Ruth Jackson

Virginia R. (Spooner) Jackson, 86, of Canterbury Woods, Garfield Avenue, Attleboro, died on Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at the Life Care Center of Attleboro following a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Norman J. Jackson to whom she was married on October 14, 1950 who died on January 29, 1986 and the late Calvin M. Washburn to whom she was married on October 2, 2004 and died on March 17, 2006. Born in Attleboro, Massachusetts on February 28, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Howard E. and Gladys W. (Quimbly) Spooner. She was a lifelong resident of the City of Attleboro and was a member of the Attleboro High School Class of 1943 and was a 1945 graduate of the Chamberlain School of Boston. From 1945 - 1948, Mrs. Jackson was employed as an assistant buyer in the better dress and gown department of the former Glading's Store in Providence, Rhode Island. From 1948 - 1953 she was employed in the sales department at Attleboro Steam and Electric Company. She later worked in the insurance industry as a licensed agent and office manager having been employed by agencies including Marie B. Robinson, Holman Insurance and Nimiroski Insurance. An ardent traveler she enjoyed visiting Japan and Hong Kong in 1978; Guam in 1980; Spain on four occasions between 1986 - 1988; England and Scotland in 1984 and cruises to South America, Bermuda and the Caribbean Islands. Mrs. Jackson leaves three children: Rev. Lynn M. (Jackson) McCracken, Pastor of Arnolds Mills United Methodist Church in Cumberland, Rhode Island and her husband, Courtney J. McCracken, of Providence, Rhode Island; Captain Keith H. Jackson, Attleboro Fire Department and his wife, Kate M. (Spellman) Jackson, of Attleboro and Sheryl J. Ercolano and her husband, Stan J. Ercolano, of Westbury, New York; nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren; a brother: Russell E. Spooner of Rehoboth; her stepchildren: Robert E. Washburn and his wife, Sheila Washburn, of Vero Beach, Florida; Nancy W. Johnson and her husband, Linwood Johnson, of Dighton; Beverly S. O'Neil and her husband, Daniel O'Neil, of Norwich, Connecticut and Marilyn J. Martin and her husband, Kevin Martin, of Bedford, New Hampshire and several extended family members and friends. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation on Sunday, October 7, 2012 from 4:00 - 8:00 PM in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, mile on left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend the funeral service Monday, October 8, 2012 at 11:00 AM from the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, mile on left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro with the Rev. William F. Flug, Pastor of Wesley United Methodist Church, Lincoln, Rhode Island, officiating. Burial will be private in Oak Knoll Cemetery, Rehoboth. Children's room available during visitation and the funeral. Please do not send flowers.
