Virginia Lois Henning, 86, formerly of Norton and Canton; died peacefully surrounded by her loving family and caregivers at The Pond Home in Wrentham on Monday, April 9, 2012. Virginia, affectionately known as Ginny, was born in Manhattan, New York on February 20, 1926. She was the daughter of Colonel Albert and Elsie (Hartman) Engelberg. Ginny graduated from High School in Alexandria, VA and attended Redlands College in California. She was married to John Leonard Henning on June 21, 1946 and resided in Wantagh (Long Island), NY for 24 years. Ginny and John resided in Canton, MA for 35 years. Ginny was an active participant in her community, especially church where she was treasurer of the Womens' Benevolent Union and served as head Deaconess for many years. Ginny was a bowler, enjoyed her bridge group, and volunteered at the ICU unit of Norwood Hospital for over 15 years. She was an avid Red Sox fan and loved listening to big band music. She will be lovingly remembered for her faithfulness to her Christian beliefs, family, and friends, especially her late husband of 65 years. She was a tremendous cook, the ultimate hostess, and could strike up an engaging conversation with anyone that had an ear. If you happen to be one of her friends you were better for it because her positive spirit was contagious. She was generous with her time and energy and a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her children, Peter and wife Thalia, John and wife Karla, Susan and husband John. Her grandchildren, Alexis and husband Kyle, Dena, Koren, Morgan, Peter and wife Susan, Anna, Ruth, Jackie and Marissa. Her great-grandchildren Demetrius, Jason, Thalia, Savannah, Liam, and Elizabeth. Her brother, Albert Engelberg and nieces, Jan and Lynne and their families.
