Virginia H. Hall

Virginia H. (Holmes) Hall, 92, of Arch Street, North Attleboro, died on Thursday, December 20, 2012 at the Madonna Manor Nursing Home in North Attleboro where she had been a resident for the past 18 months. She was the wife of the late Gerald F. Hall who died on March 12, 1974. Born in Scarsdale, New York on February 27, 1920, she was a daughter of the late Adolphus and Matilda (Hoglund) Holmes. She resided in North Attleboro for the past 89 years and had attended the Holmes neighborhood one-room school house and was a 1938 graduate of North Attleboro High School. A longtime member of the First Congregational Church, lovingly known as "Oldtown", on Old Post Road in North Attleboro, Mrs. Hall served the church in numerous capacities over the decades including as Sunday school teacher, a member of the Colonial Crafters group, frequent volunteer for church functions, fundraisers and activities and was a Grand Deaconess. Mrs. Hall was a devoted homemaker to her family and had also been employed as a sales clerk at the former Grants Department Store in Attleboro Falls, was a co-owner of the former Twin Elms Restaurant in North Attleboro for seven years and also worked at Holmes Restaurant Service, a family produce business, in North Attleboro for four years. Her favorite pastimes including creating crafts and listening to country music or her favorite artist, her son - James and spending time with her cherished family. Mrs. Hall had a love for animals with a special affection for her beloved and cherished cats. She leaves three children: Cynthia J. Desrosier and her husband, Ronald J. Desrosier, of North Attleboro; Richard A. Hall, Sr. and his wife, Barbara I. (Bishop) Hall, of North Attleboro and James K. Hall and his wife, Donna M. (Rock) Hall, of North Attleboro; 16 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; 14 great great grandchildren and several extended family members and friends. She was the mother of the late Judith M. (Ferland) Harrop Silverstein who died on September 20, 2009. She was the sister of the late Henry A. Holmes and Shirley J. Holmes. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation on Wednesday, December 26, 2012 from 4:00 - 7:00 PM in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the nationally historic "Colonel Obed Robinson Home", 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right, mile on the left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. Children's room available during visitation. Those in need of a ride to visitation may call the funeral home at (508) 695-0200 to make an advance reservation for such gratis transportation. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend funeral services on Thursday, December 27, 2012 at 10:00 AM at the First Congregational "Oldtown" Church, 675 Old Post Road, North Attleboro, with the Rev. Kelly K. Thibeault, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Arnold Mills Cemetery, Cumberland, Rhode Island. Following cemetery services an invitation will be extended to join the family for a time of continued fellowship and refreshments in Maxcy Hall at the church. Please do not send flowers.
