Veral "Russ" Hyrum Hayes, 67, of Hillside Avenue, Attleboro, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 4, 2015 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital following a period of declining health. He was the husband of Marguerite (Souto) Hayes to whom he was married on October 9, 2008. Born in Tooele, Utah on July 2, 1948, he was a son of the late Vernon and Carol (Evans) Hayes. He was raised and educated in his native Utah. Mr. Hayes was a hairdresser for four years in Attleboro and had previously been employed as a hairdresser in California and Utah for more than 30 years. While residing on the West Coast, Mr. Hayes was very involved in beauty pageant programs. He resided in Attleboro for the past 20 years. Mr. Hayes was a longtime member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Attleboro where he served as a lay leader and enjoyed preaching at many churches in the Attleboro area. As a past member of the Attleboro Area Council of Churches, Mr. Hayes was a frequent volunteer for the Food n Friends program. As an artist he enjoyed sketching. He attended the Hillside Adult Day Health Program in Attleboro. Mr. Hayes previously enjoyed dedicating his time to drive for the disabled in the Attleboro area and was a Massachusetts Certified Nursing Assistant worker in Attleboro for four years. In addition to his wife, he leaves a son: Shawn Hayes in Utah; a daughter: Cameron Hayes of Swampscott; three stepdaughters: Lisa M. Ellis of Taunton; Melissa A. Brown of Taunton and Debra A. Whitehouse of Riverside, Rhode Island; a stepson: John J. Whitehouse in Colorado; 14 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; a sister: Joyce Altman of Sacramento, California; two brothers-in-law: John and Manny; a sister-in-law: Eva and several nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends. Visitation has been respectfully omitted. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend a Memorial Service Celebrating His Life on Sunday, January 18, 2015 at 12:00 Noon at the Centenary United Methodist Church, Attleboro with the Rev.
