Valrie Sindt Paynton

June 7, 1923 — August 6, 2014

Valrie Sindt Paynton, 91, of Towne Street, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro passed away at her residence surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 with the same dignity and grace that she had lived her life. She was the cherished wife of almost 63 years of William Chauncy Paynton to whom she was married on September 1, 1951. Born in Woodbine, Iowa on June 7, 1923, she was a daughter of the late Honas Embert Sindt and the late Inis Valrie (Smith) Sindt. Raised and educated in Woodbine, Mrs. Paynton was a graduate of Woodbine High School at the age of 16 and obtained her Iowa State Teaching Certificate through Iowa State College. Mrs. Paynton taught in a one room school house in rural western Iowa until moving to Omaha, Nebraska with her sister in 1945. Although described as shy and modest, Mrs. Paynton had the courage to move to Boston in 1946 as a single woman from Iowa and was employed at New England Mutual Life Insurance Company. She met her future husband at a dance at the Old South Church in Boston and the couple were wed at the Church of the Advent on Charles Street in Boston and then made their home in Cambridge. In 1956, she and her husband relocated to North Attleboro where they purchased the Sturdy Estate on Towne Street and have made their home there for almost the past 60 years. The bond they exemplified between wife and husband served as an example to family of mutual love and respect and to always see the "best in people". She will be lovingly remembered as a gracious, forgiving woman of great elegance and style. Once her children were grown and the family business, ICP, Inc., was flourishing, the couple enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, Europe and taking cruises. Mrs. Paynton, at the age of 81, accompanied her daughter, Pamela, to China to welcome her granddaughter, Mia, into the family. She attended Waters Church in North Attleboro. In addition to her beloved husband and best friend, Mrs. Paynton leaves four children: Lynda O'Brien of North Attleboro; Robert Paynton of Warwick, Rhode Island; Richard Paynton of North Attleboro and Pamela Paynton of South Dartmouth; six grandchildren: David O'Brien and his wife, Erin, of Arlington, Virginia; Timothy O'Brien and his fiancé, Cori, of Brighton; Alex Paynton of North Attleboro, Taylor (Paynton) Potter and her husband, Jonathan, of Taunton and Valrie and Mia Paynton both of South Dartmouth; sisters-in-law: Doreen Paynton and Natalie Brooks; a brother-in-law: Arthur Hibray; former son-in-law: Jonathan O'Brien of North Attleboro; her friend and caregiver: Deborah Anderson of Ft. Myers, Florida and many nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends. She was anxiously awaiting the imminent arrival of her first great grandchild. She was the sister of the late Donafae (Sindt) Hibray and was the mother-in-law of the late Krista (Drown) Paynton. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation on Wednesday, August 13, 2014 from 5:00 -7:00 PM in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right, mile on the left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro.
