Thomas C. Ferguson

Thomas Cecil Ferguson, 89, of Mansfield Avenue, Norton, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 12, 2011 at Morton Hospital in Taunton. He was the beloved longtime husband of Harriet C. (Close) Ferguson, whom he married on May 5, 1956. Mr. Ferguson was born in Greenville, South Carolina on December 8, 1921, the son of the late David L. Ferguson and Ann (Philpott) Ferguson. He was raised and educated in Greenville, where he graduated from high school. After high school, he proudly served his country in the United States Navy from his enlistment on September 5, 1942 until his honorable discharge on August 24, 1948. He served in the Pacific Theater of World War II. Following his discharge from the military, he enrolled and graduated from Clemson University, where he acquired a bachelors degree in electrical engineering. Mr. Ferguson worked as an electrical engineer for General Electric for over twenty years. His work brought him initially to Pittsfield, Massachusetts before moving to Ardmore, Pennsylvania where he resided for over forty years. He relocated to Norton five years ago. An avid golfing buff, Mr. Ferguson loved both watching the sport on television and playing. He was proud to have the opportunity to have worked at the US Open when it was played at the Merion County Club in Ardmore, Pennsylvania in 1971. In addition to his wife of over fifty five years, he leaves two daughters: Jane Cabral and her husband, Steven, of North Attleboro and Anne Lima and her husband, Steven, of West Terre Haute, Indiana; four grandchildren: Christopher Cabral, Ethan Cabral, John Lima and Elise Lima; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late David Ferguson and Ethel Ferguson. Visitation has been respectfully omitted. Funeral services and burial will be private. Please do not send flowers.
