Susan Sweet Lombard of Lyman, NH, passed away in a car accident on Martha's Vineyard on Tuesday, March 27. She was 69. Susan was born in Providence, RI, on January 31, 1943. She was the daughter of the late William Otis Sweet of Reno, Nevada and Marian Rickenbaugh Sweet of Norton, MA. She grew up in Attleboro, MA and attended local schools. She summered with her family in Pittsburg, NH. She graduated from Walnut Hill School in Natick, MA, in 1961, and from Colby Sawyer College in 1963. She traveled around the world through a program with Chapman College called the "University of the Seven Seas" in the fall of 1963. After college, she worked for a number of years at Harvard University at Widener Library in the periodicals room and later as an assistant at the University Marshall's Office. She moved to New York where she worked for the National Audubon Society. Susan lived for 25 years in Sarasota, FL where she volunteered for many community activities and wasa member of the Church of the Redeemer. She served on the original Extravaganza Auction Committee at the Out-of-Door Academy and was a Trustee of the School for over 6 years where her children attended school. She helped organize the original Grandparents Day in 1980 which continues to this day at Out-of-Door. She was previously married to James M. Lombard of Sarasota. She was very active inher New Hampshire community. She was a vestry member of the Church of the Epiphany in Lisbon as well as lay reader and treasurer. Susan was a board member of the North Country Home Health & Hospice Agency. She also volunteered for the North Country Chamber Players, serving as secretary of the organization and co-chair of the benefit auctions. She is survived by two children: Laurence M. Lombard, II of New York, and Hillary S. Lombard of Brooklyn, NY. She is also survived by two sisters: Margo Sweet of Waltham, MA, and Seth Sweet of Westwood, MA. She will always be remembered for her dedication to her family and many friends, and for her love of animals.
