Steven Howard Whitney, 70, of Attleboro, MA, passed away on Sunday, April 10, 2022, at his home from frontal temporal dementia from which he suffered for many years.  Steve was the beloved husband of Susan Whitney to whom he was married for almost 20 years. She was his devoted and loving wife and caregiver.
Born in Natick, MA on November 16, 1951, he was a son of the late Robert F. Whitney and the late Anita (Leavitt) Whitney.  He was raised and educated in Natick and graduated from Natick High School before earning his Bachelor of Arts degree in history from the University of Massachusetts.
Mr. Whitney was employed as a computer technician for Youth Build Boston, a job training program which helped underserved youth, for 10 years prior to his retirement from disability.
In 2004, he moved to the City of Attleboro and was a member of the First Congregational "Old Town" Church for many years.
A kind, gentle, and compassionate man, he loved taking care of his family, friends and people he just met.   He will be remembered for his love for animals, particularly cats and dogs, children, all types of music but especially Journey, feeding the birds, telling and hearing a good joke, performing yard work, playing cards, being a fan of the New England Patriots and the Boston Red Sox and for his great ability to parallel park.
Sue and Steve made a perfect couple.  Steve treasured time spent with Sue at the beach on the ocean.  He also loved trips to Maine and the Saco River as well as vacations to Florida and boat rides on the Yellow River with Uncle Bill and Aunt Rose.
In addition to his wife, he leaves his siblings: John Whitney, husband of the late Denise, and their children: Michelle and Jennifer; Daniel Whitney and his wife, Debbie; Dana Whitney and his wife, Allie, and their children: Alyssa and Tom; and Jane Haman and her husband, Chuck, and their children: Paul Haman and Whitney Haman Ruiz and her husband, Arnold; his sisters-in-law: Lydia Silver and Sheryl Postemski and her husband, David Postemski, and their daughter: Megan; his wife's aunt and uncle: Rose and William "Bill" Kuhhirte; and extended family members, multiple friends, and members of his church community.
Sue gratefully acknowledges the support of the Community Visiting Nurse Agency now HopeHealth, the Alzheimer Disease Assistance Program and the family, friends and caregivers that assisted over the past several years. Special thanks to Daniel Kennedy, Lynn Clarkin, Gail Robey, Geoff Gallant, Sam Murray, Maria, Joann Gray and friends Sandy Pardi, Melissa Leverett-King, and Maria Faria who lovingly helped Sue care for Steve and allowed him to be at home.
