Steven Phillip Mellady, 54, of Juniper Road, North Attleboro and Beaver Brook Road, Washington, New Hampshire, died unexpectedly at Sturdy Memorial Hospital, Attleboro, Massachusetts on Sunday, July 31, 2005 after having been stricken at home. He was the beloved husband of Joanne M. (Smith) Mellady to whom he was married on September 27, 1997. Born in Willimantic, Connecticut on May 12, 1951, he was a son of the late John F. Mellady, Jr. and Lorraine (Lavoie) Mellady Mazzola and was the stepson of the late Joseph Mazzola. He was raised in Willimantic where he attended St. Joseph?s Catholic School and later graduated from Windham High School. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force having served from 1972 ? 1976 during the Vietnam War era and was stationed in Greece where he worked as a linguistic specialist and decoder as part of undercover operations. Mr. Mellady was employed as a computer programmer for Harvard Pilgrim Health Care in Quincy for the past 10 years. Previously, he had been employed at McCormick and Dodge for 15 years in Framingham. He resided in North Attleboro since 1995 and had previously lived in Mansfield for 15 years. Mr. Mellady was a longtime member of the Mansfield Jaycees and as a music lover; he played the trombone and was a member of the ?Little Big Band?. He particularly liked the Beatles, big band era music and classical pieces. A sports enthusiast, he was a devout New York Yankees fan and New England Patriots fan. In addition to his wife of seven years, he leaves several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was the brother of the late John F. ?Skip? Mellady III and the late Clifford Mellady. Visitation with Veteran?s Honors will be held on Thursday, August 4, 2005 from 5:00 ? 7:00 PM in the ?Commonwealth Chapel? of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, mile on left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. Those in need of a ride to visitation may call the funeral home at (508) 695-0200 for free transportation. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend Funeral Services on Thursday, August 4, 2005 at 7:00 PM in the ?Commonwealth Chapel? following visitation with the Rev. John A. Raposo, Pastor of Holy Ghost Church, Attleboro, officiating. Burial will be in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. Children?s room available during visitation and funeral service.
