Steven Carl Erickson passed away from complications of Parkinson's Disease on Friday December 12, 2025, with his wife Jean by his side.
Born in Torrington, CT he spent most of his childhood growing up on dairy farms in New England and New York. As a youth he loved cars and would take apart old cars, put them back together and drive them around the fields near his home In Wappinger's Falls, NY. Once old enough to be licensed, he often helped his dad deliver Erickson's Dairy milk throughout the community. He loved playing sports and was a soccer star in high school.
Upon graduating from High School, he attended the University of Buffalo earning a bachelor's degree in civil engineering. It was during this time that he met his wife of 54 years, Jean. Steve and Jean were married on January 23, 1971.
After graduation from Buffalo, Steve was drafted into the Army and was lucky enough to serve at a computer unit in Karlsruhe, Germany where he served as the lieutenant colonel's driver and later as an assembly language computer programmer. While there he and Jean spent time off travelling and skiing in the Alps.
After his service, he went on to earn a master's degree in civil engineering at Michigan State University.
In 1978 Steve entered the family business as part owner of Swanson Construction in Attleboro, Massachusetts, where he orchestrated the building and renovation of countless local homes and businesses. He served on the Attleboro City Planning Board for more than 30 years, chairing it for many of those years.
Steve was an active person who loved playing sports of all kinds - handball, racquetball, tennis, basketball (playing on the Fossil league), and golf. He especially enjoyed rooting for his favorite football team, the Buffalo Bills. Rock Steady Boxing, the exercise program for Parkinson's patients, and the people and friends involved, helped him through his battle with Parkinson's.
A lover of pun-studded "Dad jokes" he was quick to lighten the mood of any situation and set everyone at ease. He exuded kindness and found joy and humor in all things, delighting everyone lucky enough to be in his orbit.
Steve's greatest joy was found in family and friends, who will miss him beyond measure. He is survived by his beloved wife, Jean, three children, Brian (Uiara), Keith (Tara) and Harley (Sara), three grandchildren, Atari, Isabella and Gigi, his sister Joy (Chris) and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Gertrude and his older sister Paula (David) Butler.
A funeral service for Steve will be held on January 17, 2026 at 1pm, at the Beacon Covenant Church, 841 North Main St., Attleboro, MA, followed by burial in North Purchase Cemetery. A time of visitation and fellowship with the family will follow at approximately 2pm in the fellowship hall of the church. Family and friends are invited to attend.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research (michaeljfox.org) or the Beacon Covenant Church (https://www.beaconcov.org/give)
