Steven Cochrane, age 72, of North Attleboro, passed away surrounded by the love, comfort, and care of his two daughters on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, following a courageous 15-year battle with cancer and graft vs host disease following a stem cell transplant. Steve was a devoted father and grandfather, whose greatest joy in life was spending time with his beloved children and grandchildren. Known for his tough exterior, he had a heart that fiercely protected those he loved. His wisdom and quiet humor will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Born on October 5, 1952, in Boston, MA, Steven was one of five children born to the late Joseph J. and Elin A. (Manson) Cochrane. In his early years, Steven grew up in Dorchester, before relocating with his family to the Squantum section of Quincy. He was a graduate of North Quincy High School, Class of 1970.
Steven dedicated his professional life to the MBTA (Carmen's Union), where he began his career as a bus driver. Steve ascended the ranks to become a mechanic, and electrician before ultimately serving as a Classification Executive. Following his retirement, Steven’s expertise was also sought after by engineering firms Virginkar, and Booz Allen Hamilton, where he worked as a consultant..
A poker enthusiast, he was the heart of many unforgettable card nights, surrounded by lifelong friends. His passion for cooking brought people together, especially on big game days. At home, he thrived on orchestrating household projects—eager to involve everyone, even when we protested with a smile. Those shared moments, sometimes reluctant but always filled with love, created memories that will last a lifetime.
He is survived by his devoted and cherished daughters: Alicia M. Reynolds (Jay) and Sarah E. Graslie (Brecca); his six treasured grandchildren: Thomas Reynolds, Niamh Reynolds, Sean Reynolds, Jasmine Graslie, Mason Graslie, and Logan Graslie, all of Norton; his siblings: Kevin Cochrane (Susana), Brian Cochrane (Linda), Christopher Cochrane, and Joanne Burkert (Charles); his former spouse: Deborah (Goodine) Cochrane. As well as many nieces and nephews, and a beloved sister in law, Marianne Tessicini
In addition to his parents, Steven is preceded in passing by his longtime companion: Claire Kennedy of Newton.
In his final days, he was surrounded by the same love he so freely gave.He leaves behind a legacy of laughter, love, and togetherness. His spirit lives on in every meal shared, every story told, and every project completed side by side.
