Stephen Leon Robinson, 70, of New Bedford, MA, passed away on Monday, May 23, 2016 at his home. Born on August 2, 1945 in Central Falls, RI, he was the son of the late Thomas F. Robinson and the late Leona M. (Deschamps) Robinson.Stephen was a graduate of Cumberland (RI) High School, Class of 1964, received his Bachelor's Degree in History as a member of the first graduating class of Rhode Island Junior College, Class of 1966, and received his Master's Degree in History from Providence College.He proudly and honorably served our country in the United States Army from 1969 through 1972 during the Vietnam War, and received the National Service Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Overseas Service Bar, Army Commendation Medal, Army Marksman Marksmanship Badges, and the Good Conduct Medal, and as a member of the United States Army Reserves until 1975. A resident of New Bedford, MA for the past four years, he previously lived in North Attleboro, MA. Stephen retired in 2011 from employment as a Health Care Manager at Delta Dental of Massachusetts, and previously worked as a Teacher in Plymouth, MA and at St. Edward's School in Providence, RI, as well as at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Massachusetts.He was a man of many interests, and enjoyed photography, painting, and travel, especially to Europe. He was a member of The Compassionate Friends following the death of his beloved daughter, Stephanie. Stephen genuinely valued time spent with friends and family.Stephen is survived by his loving son, Timothy P. Robinson of Middleboro, MA and his cherished grandson, Shea W. Robinson of Acushnet, MA. He was the brother of Madeline O. Robinson of Cumberland, RI; Marguerite R. Robinson of North Kingstown, RI; Marie Ann (Robinson) Strauss of Narragansett, RI; Leo A. Robinson of South Attleboro, MA; Peter X. Robinson of FL; Leona M. (Robinson) Blackwell of North Attleboro, MA; and John M. Robinson of Cumberland, RI. He was the brother of the late Thomas F. Robinson, and leaves many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.He was the former husband of Meredith (Whillans) Robinson of North Attleboro, MA.Family and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation with Veteran's Honors on Friday, May 27, 2016 from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right, ¾ mile on the left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. Burial with Military Honors will follow on Friday, May 27, 2016 at 1:45 p.m. in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
