Obituary

Retired Firefighter Stephen William Burke, Cambridge Fire Department, 76, of North Attleboro, MA passed away on February 25, 2026, at the Heritage Hills Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Smithfield, RI following an illness that began last July. He was the beloved husband of Mary McMahon-Burke.

Born in Cambridge, MA on May 23, 1949, he was a son of the late Leo Burke and the late Lorraine (Litwinsky) Pritchard.

He proudly served with the United States Marine Corps from August 28, 1968, until his honorable discharge on February 16, 1970. He was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Rifle Marksmanship Badge and the Vietnam Service Medal with one combat action ribbon.

Mr. Burke proudly served his native community as a firefighter for the City of Cambridge for more than 25 years prior to his retirement.

In addition to his wife, he leaves his children: Stephen Burke and his wife, McKayla Burke, of Seekonk, MA; Matthew V. Burke of North Attleboro, MA and Meagan M. Burke of North Attleboro, MA; his grandchildren: Noah DaSilva, Sophia DaSilva, Joseph Burke, Stephen Burke, Jaime Johnsen and her husband, Riley Johnsen, and Celia Mendez; a great granddaughter: Ada J. Johnsen; his siblings: Lori Reynolds and her husband, Donald Reynolds, of Wenham, MA and Linda Crandall, wife of the late Fletcher Crandall, of Hamilton, MA; many nieces and nephews, extended family, members of his wife's family and friends and colleagues at the Cambridge Fire Department.

He was the father of the late Jaclyn DaSilva who died in 2018 and was the brother of the late Donna Pritchard and the late John Pritchard.

Family and friends are warmly invited to attend Visitation with Firefighter Honors on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, from 9:00 am until 10:30 am in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, MA followed immediately by a Funeral Service at 10:30 am in the "Memorial Chapel".

Private burial with full military honors will immediately follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA.

Due to the limitation of flowers at the cemetery, please omit flowers. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Jimmy Fund of the Dana Farber Cancer Institute.
