Stanley Vincent Embree, Jr., 84, of North Attleboro, MA, peacefully passed away at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro, MA, on Sunday, March 5, 2017, surrounded by the love of family and friends. He was the husband of the late Dorothy I. "Dot" (Gardner) Embree, to whom he was married on September 12, 1970 and who died on July 22, 2013.Born on January 30, 1933 in Boston, MA, he was the son of the late Stanley Vincent Embree, Sr., and the late Doris M. (Tays) Embree Guilfoyle. He was the step-son of the late Thomas Edward Guilfoyle, to whom his mother had been married for thirty-five years.Stanley was a graduate of Dedham High School, attended Boston University, and proudly and honorably served our country in the United States Navy from 1951 until 1957. He worked for many years as a Postal Supervisor for the United States Postal Service in Newton Center, MA, until retiring in 1988, and then as a Transport Coordinator for the United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in West Roxbury, MA. A resident of North Attleboro since 2004, he previously lived in Attleboro, Walpole, and Dedham, MA. Stanley was a member of Central Congregational Church in Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, for twenty-eight years. He was a proud member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 90 in Norwood, MA, the American Legion, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. As a younger man, he enjoyed golfing and hunting, and had been a hunting buddy of the great Ted Williams. Stanley was a certified baseball umpire, enjoyed coaching baseball, and always looked forward to sporting events with his children and grandchildren. He had a love of all animals - especially cats and dogs - with a special place in his heart for his dog, "Angel". More than anything else, Stanley simply loved being with his family.He is survived by his beloved children: Larry L. Embree and his wife, Sheila (Hollowell) Embree, of Hopedale, MA; and Kimberly J. Embree of Plainville, MA. He was the adoring grandfather of Christopher L. Embree, Ashley L. Hession, and Melissa A. Mercaldo; and leaves five cherished great-grandchildren: Hannah Saunders, Ryan Mercaldo, Emma Kalil, Autumn Kalil, and Walker Kalil. He was the brother of Susan Jane (Embree) Thorsell and her husband, Robert L. Thorsell, of Foxboro, MA; and the late Judith A. (Embree) O'Rourke, of Walpole, MA. He leaves several nieces and nephews and many friends.Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a Visitation on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right, ¾ mile on the left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro.
