Sophie Mary Hudson

Sophie Mary (Furmanik) Hudson, 90, of East Providence, Rhode Island, formerly of East Taunton, MA, died on October 4, 2022, at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island.
Born in Taunton, MA, on December 18, 1931, she was one of thirteen children born to the late Bartholomew Furmanik and the late Helena (Taraska) Furmanik.  Raised and educated in Taunton, she was a lifelong resident of her family homestead in East Taunton until moving to East Providence, Rhode Island, nearly six years ago.  She was a graduate of Taunton High School.
Mrs. Hudson worked for the City of Taunton, having first been employed as a librarian at the East Taunton library branch, and later was the librarian for the main Taunton Library in the Children's Room.  She also was employed as a bartender at the Lafayette Club in Taunton. In earlier years, she was employed by New England Brass and by Reed & Barton.
In her earlier years she enjoyed bowling and ballroom dancing, and later polka dancing. Sophie liked freshwater fishing, gardening, was a huge Elvis fan, and in recent years enjoyed the company of her beloved canine companion, "Flower".
Left to mourn her loss are her two children: Steven B. Hudson and his wife, Sara, of Champaign, Illinois; and Nancy E. Wood of East Providence, Rhode Island, with whom she resided,; three grandchildren: Gilbert Travers, Stevie-Rae Travers, and Stanley Hudson.
She was the last remaining survivor of her siblings.
All services will be private.
