Sophie Balamas-Young (Kartsonakis) 93, of North Attleboro, MA., passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Monday, September 23, 2024 at the Life Care Center of Attleboro. She was the beloved wife of the late Raymond Young and the late Peter J. Balamas.
Born in Sparta, Greece, on February 28, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Kirk and Katherine Kartsonakis.
Sophie worked as a seamstress at Petite Sophistocates at the Emerald Square Mall before retiring in 1993. She enjoyed baking, gardening and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her loving children, John P. Balamas, DMD and his wife Mary of North Attleboro, MA., and Ann Gambale of Chatham, New Jersey. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Stacey McLean and her husband Sean of Astoria, New York and Jacqueline, Nicole and Peter Balamas all of North Attleboro, MA., and a devoted sister, Dimitra of Montreal, Canada. She was the sister of the late Argiro, Koula, Nellie, Strati and Marika.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend Visitation on Monday, September 30, 2024, from 10:00 am until 11:00 am followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am at the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, 97 Walcott Street, Pawtucket, RI.
There will be no funeral cortege from the funeral home prior to the funeral service.
Burial will take place on Tuesday, October 1, 2024 at 12:00 pm in Pinelawn Memorial Park and Arboretum Cemetery, 2030 Wellwood Avenue, Farmingdale, NY 11735.
Following funeral services at Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church an invitation will be extended to join the family for a time of continued fellowship and refreshments at Angelo’s Palace, 133 Mendon Road, Cumberland, RI 02864.
