Simone Durand Verella, 96, of Norton, MA; formerly of North Attleboro, MA, went home to the Lord on June 5, 2022, at her residence in Norton.
Born in Port au Prince, Haiti on April 30, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Emmanuel Durand and the late Mariette (Jean-Baptiste) Durand.
Simone Verella was raised in Haiti where she received her primary education and later attended the University of Kingston in Jamaica. To her friends and family, she was known as Mona.
Mona was employed as an administrative assistant for the Haitian government before immigrating to the United States in 1969. She resided in New York and Florida prior to settling in North Attleboro where she resided for 6 years prior to moving to Norton 7 years ago.
In New York, she attended Bethany Baptist Church.
As the Matriarch of the family, she is lovingly remembered for cooking with passion, sometimes staying up all night to prepare large meals to bring her family together, watching cooking shows and singing traditional Christian hymns. Mona loved to window shop, seldomly buying anything but could always tell family and friends where to find a particular item.
She is survived by her sister, Paulette Tardieu; her loving children: Mickaelle Verella Petit, Kareen Verella, Leslye Bell and her husband Brian Bell, Joan Morisset and her husband Rudy Morisset; her beloved nieces whom she considered her daughters and with whom she resided: Giliane and Regine Tardieu; her nephew, Philippe Tardieu and his wife, Dr. Marie-Ange Tardieu; her grand-children: Vanessa Verella, Johnathan Marcellus, Dr. Michael Simoni and his wife, Dr. Kellie Ann Jurado Simoni, Kevin Morisset and his wife Cheyenne Morisset, Robert Petit and his wife, Margaret Petit, Stephan Morisset, Brian Bell Jr. and his wife, Dr. Carla Kruse Bell, Christine Bell, Arielle Bell, Zachary Rigaud, Sasha Morisset, Travis Morisset, Jennifer Petit, and her 11 great grand-children.
She was the mother of the late Fred Verella, sister of the late Fritz Durand, and grandmother of the late Chrystian Petit.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to honor and remember Simone by gathering for a Memorial Visitation on Saturday, June 11, 2022, from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, MA.
A Celebration of Her Life will immediately follow the visitation at 4:00 p.m. in the "Memorial Chapel" of the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Simone to the Alzheimer's Association, Massachusetts Chapter.
