Shirley Frances (Ludwig) McGrath, 85, of Attleboro, MA, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2022, at Garden Place HealthCare in Attleboro, MA after lengthy health struggles.
Born in Wrentham, MA, on November 2, 1936, she was a daughter of the late Marvin C. Ludwig Sr. and the late Lyllian (Davies) Ludwig. Raised and educated in Mansfield, Mrs. McGrath was a graduate of Mansfield High School. Prior to moving to Attleboro in 1988, she was a resident of North Attleboro, MA for many years.
For more than 30 years, she was employed as a bookkeeper for Sadler Brothers Inc. in South Attleboro until her retirement in 2008, and also served as a clerk and bookkeeper for Newell Burying Ground in South Attleboro for many years.
Her favorite pastimes included playing the piano and camping with her family and friends at various locations throughout the United States. A 1976 trip to Florida is a cherished memory for her children and friends who went on that east coast camping adventure! However, she had a particular fondness for Maine, which she especially enjoyed sharing with granddaughter Amber and friends. The numerous, sometimes planned, sometimes spontaneous weekend getaways and family trips created many happy memories for her family. Shirley also had a life-long love for animals which her children also possess; however, her truest happiness always came from time spent with her family no matter the location or event.
She was the loving mother of Jerome A. Miller of Attleboro, MA, and James B. McGrath Jr. and his wife, Mary Ellen, of Attleboro, MA. In addition, she leaves a granddaughter: Amber L. Reed of Florida, and a brother, Marvin C. Ludwig Jr. of Woonsocket, RI, as well as an extended family with numerous nieces and nephews, as well as many dear friends.
Shirley was the mother of the late Darryl S. Reed and the sister of the late Olive C. (Ludwig) Cheney.
