Shirley Kathleen (Smith) Hawes, 84, of North Attleboro, passed away on Monday, December 19, 2016 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro, MA. She was the loving and beloved wife of the late Howard Raymond Hawes, Jr., who died on August 14, 2010. Born on May 1, 1932 in Attleboro, MA, she was the daughter of the late Vernon Smith and the late Eleanor (Kirby) Smith.A lifelong resident of North Attleboro, MA, Shirley worked for many years as a Cashier at the Stop & Shop Supermarket there, and was a member of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church in North Attleboro. She was a kind and giving woman who enjoyed the simple things in life: collecting knickknacks and items of Americana, camping at Echo Lake in Rhode Island, and coffee ice cream. She loved animals of most every kind. Shirley deeply loved her family, and delighted in spending time with them, especially her treasured grandchildren and great-grandchildrenShe is survived by her cherished children: Kurt V. Hawes and his wife, Josephine "Josie" (Mello) Hawes, of South Attleboro, MA; and Bradley N. Hawes and his wife, Debra A. Hawes-Brodeur, of South Attleboro, MA. She leaves four grandchildren: Kimberly J. Brodeur, Derek G. Brodeur, Jonathan H. Hawes and his wife, Katie, and Lindsey M. Hawes; and four great-grandchildren: Kaylee Bastien, Carysa Bastien, Nathan Brodeur, and Nicholas Brodeur.
