Shaun Donald Bates, 36, of Brick Kiln Road, North Attleboro, died unexpectedly at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island on Wednesday, September 10, 2014. Born in Stoughton, Massachusetts on August 9, 1978, he was a son of Donald M. and Paula J. (Chapman) Bates of North Attleboro. He was raised and educated in North Attleboro where he remained a lifelong resident and was a 1996 graduate of North Attleboro High School and he later attended New England Technical Institute. He was previously employed as a sous chef and in the construction industry. Mr. Bates attended St. Mark Roman Catholic Church with his family. His most treasured times were those spent with his family, particularly his daughters. Shaun's favorite pastimes included fishing, camping, spending time making and sitting around bonfires, four wheeling, fixing things and cooking for family and friends. In addition to his parents, he leaves a daughter: Claire Therese Bates of North Attleboro; his companion: Natalie Jette and her daughter, Olivia K. Kronberg, whom he thought of as his daughter, of North Attleboro; a brother: Derek M. Bates of North Attleboro; a sister: Lauren T. Almeida and her husband, Steven J. Almeida, of Attleboro; a niece: Lilliana J. Almeida of Attleboro; his aunt and Godmother: Gail A. Ramos, wife of the late Fred Ramos, of Titusville, Florida; his Godfather: William Greene and his wife, Julie (Horn) Greene, of Billerica; numerous cousins whom he loved, extended family members and many dear friends. He was the paternal grandson of the late Frank D. Bates and the late Virginia S. (Stratton) Bates and was the maternal grandson of the late Donald K. Chapman and the late Therese O. (Bry) Chapman. He was the nephew of the late Patricia Bates. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation on Tuesday, September 16, 2014 from 5:00 - 8:00 PM in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. For those in need of a ride to visitation simply call the funeral home directly at 508-695-0200 to make an advance reservation for such gratis local transportation. Relatives and friends are welcome to attend the funeral on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at 9:30 AM from the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at St. Mark Roman Catholic Church, Stanley Street, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro with the Rev. Kenneth Gumbert, officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery and Arboretum, Mount Hope Street, North Attleboro. Following cemetery services an invitation will be extended to join the family for a time of continued fellowship and refreshments at a location to be announced. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a fund for his daughter, Claire.
