Scott Jeffrey McKearney, 56, of School Street, Rockport, an Attleboro native, died unexpectedly at his residence on Christmas Day, December 25, 2011. Born in Attleboro, Massachusetts on September 21, 1955, he was a son of Betty Lou (Leonard) McKearney of Plainville and the late James Leo McKearney, Jr. He was raised and educated in Attleboro where he was a 1973 graduate of Attleboro High School. He earned his Bachelor of Science, his Masters degree and his PhD in Sociology all from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He was a resident of the greater Attleboro area for most of his life. Mr. McKearney was the owner of a business recruiting company for more than 20 years. As a professor, Mr. McKearney taught philosophy at the University of Maryland and in Boston area colleges. He enjoyed the time spent collecting antiques. In addition to his mother, he leaves his siblings: Joyce Ellen Welsh and her husband, Lealand Welsh, of Wrentham; J. Peter McKearney and his wife, Alba (Arango) McKearney, of Wrentham; Diane J. Fontaine and her husband, Ralph Fontaine, of Attleboro and Sean J. McKearney and his wife, Janice (Mattson) McKearney, of Attleboro and several nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, several extended family members and dear friends.
