Sandra L. (Roberts) Hammond, 88, of Plainville, MA passed away on May 22, 2025, at the Alliance Health at Maples where she had been a long-time resident. She was the beloved wife of Richard T. Hammond, to whom she was married on May 7, 1955. Sandra and Richard recently had their 70th wedding anniversary.
Born in North Attleboro, MA, July 14, 1936, she was the daughter of the late William G. Roberts and the late Dorothy (Kenney) Roberts. Raised and educated in her native community of North Attleboro, she was a 1955 graduate of North Attleboro High School.
Sandra had been employed as a waitress at numerous restaurants for many years. She later served as the Tour Coordinator for the Plainville Senior Center for 11 years prior to her retirement. At the senior center, she coordinated various trips for the seniors including trips to Foxwoods and led the weekly cribbage games.
Sandra loved roller skating when she was growing up and loved the Red Sox, Bruins and Patriots. She loved flower gardening, playing bingo, crocheting and knitting.
In previous years, she attended Grace Episcopal Church in North Attleboro.
Sandra was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary – Post 49 Plainville.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children: Steven Hammond and his wife, Jean (Bergh) Hammond of Wrentham, MA and Vickie Hammond and her fiancé, Thomas Gemelli of North Attleboro, MA; grandsons: Jason Dube of Milan, NH, Matthew Hammond of Norwood, MA, and Kyle Hammond and his wife, Megan of North Attleboro, MA. Great grandchildren: Brayden Hammond, Kiley Dube, Sawyer Dube, Declan Hammond, Harper Hammond; a sister: Barbara Hassell of Phoenix, Arizona; her sister-in-law: Judith Roy of Attleboro, MA; and several nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Ellen Correia, William F. Roberts, Kenneth Roberts and Dorothy Nowell.
Family and friends are cordially invited to attend Visitation on Friday, June 13, 2025, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. in the “Memorial Chapel” of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, MA.
A Memorial Service will follow the visitation at 3:00 pm in the “Memorial Chapel” of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home.
A Celebration of Life will be held following the service at a place to be announced.
Burial will be private at Shepardville Cemetery, Plainville, MA.
