Ruth Mildred Healy

Ruth Mildred (Smith) Healy passed peacefully early in the morning of Friday, November 2, 2012 at Epoch Senior HealthCare of Norton. She was 91 at the time of her passing, and had been in declining health for the past six months. Ruth was born in Worcester, MA on January 11, 1921. She was the fourth child of seven born to the late Cora (Besse) and Frank C Smith. Widowed when her husband died in his forties, Cora raised the family on a farm on West St in Attleboro. Ruth continued to live in Attleboro for the rest of her life. Ruth was the wife of the late Charles F. Healy (Chick) of Attleboro. She was the mother of Maureen (Healy) Miller and her husband Gerald A of North Attleboro. Also survived by her loving and devoted daughter and caregiver Karen J Healy of Attleboro with whom she made her home. She was the step mother of the late Robert E Healy of Jamestown, RI. She was the loving grandmother of Jennifer (Miller) Fine of Franklin and her husband Jason, Kara (Miller) Coddaire of No Attleboro and her husband Mark, Colleen Healy of Pawtucket, RI, and the late Lt Col Robert E Healy, Jr of Alabama. She is also survived by four cherished great grandsons, Brody and Wyatt Fine of Franklin, Aaron and Nathan Coddaire of North Attleboro. She was predeceased by her brother Harold Smith, her sisters Gertrude Heeks and Lillian Giles. She is survived by her sisters Muriel Balser, Gladys Miller and Grace Janson all of Attleboro. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She worked for many years in the Purchasing Dept of Swank, Inc. retiring in 1976. She had met her late husband Chick at Swank. He passed away on their 35th wedding anniversary on July 29, 1978. She had enjoyed many trips to Siesta Key, Florida with her late husband and family and also to Hawaii, Las Vegas, San Francisco, Vermont, and Canada. She was devoted to her family, and her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were the central interest of her life. She was nicknamed "Gumma" by her youngest granddaughter Kara because she always made sure her pocketbook was stocked with gum for her grandchildren. Visitation was respectfully omitted. Private services were held in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 16 1Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. Burial followed in Newell Burying Ground, South Attleboro. The Rev. Kelly K. Thibeault, Pastor of the First Congregational Church, North Attleboro, officiated. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mrs. Healy's name may be made to the Community VNA, 10 Emory Street, Attleboro, MA 02703.
