Rudolph "Rudy" Joel Wik Sr.

October 1, 1931 — April 23, 2022

Rudolph "Rudy" Joel Wik Sr., 90, of Plainville, MA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 23, 2022, at HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence, RI.  He was the beloved husband of Barbara Mae (Nickerson) Wik, whom he married on January 4, 1953.
Born on October 1, 1931, in Caribou, Maine, he was the son of the late Roland Wik and the late Magdeline (McAtee) Wolon.
A graduate of Jamaica Plain High School, Class of 1951, he worked for over 40 years as a cook and baker at Boston City Hospital.  While there, he was promoted to Assistant Food Service Manager.  After several years, he transferred to the City of Boston's Mattapan Chronic Disease Hospital in the position Food Service Manager, before retiring in 1996.
Rudy proudly and honorably served our country in the United States Coast Guard.
A resident of Plainville since 1997, he previously lived in Dedham and Hyde Park, MA.
A man of faith and devotion, he was a member of Saint Martha Church in Plainville, and in the 1980's was a member of a church folk group at Saint Susanna's Church in Dedham, where he played and sang with his family.
Rudy loved to cook, especially for his family. His wife would bake their children's wedding cakes and Christmas cookies, and Rudy, assuming the role of official family cake and cookie decorator passed down from his mother, would lovingly and skillfully decorate them.  He was a man with many diverse interests: he loved to garden; woodwork - making much of their own furniture; camp; and work on Sudoku puzzles. He had a wonderful sense of humor; had a soft spot in his heart for animals, having grown up on a farm as a child and having many pets during his life; and he enjoyed listening to music, having played the clarinet and saxophone as a young man.
In addition to his wife, Barbara M., he leaves his loving children:  Cheryl Wik Healey and her husband, Michael S. Healey, of Mansfield, MA; Rudolph Joel Wik Jr. of Plainville, MA; and Philip B. Wik and his wife, Martha M. Wik, of Dracut, MA.  He was the proud and adoring grandfather of Amanda R. Imlach and Nick R. Imlach of Chelmsford, MA.  Rudy was predeceased by his siblings:  Pauline Haley, Gill (Buddy) Martin, Joel Martin, and Leon "Duke" Martin.  He leaves his brother-in-law, Laurence E. DeVoe and his wife, Deborah DeVoe, of Braintree, MA, his nieces, nephews and extended family.
