Roy Edward Hurd

Roy Edward Hurd, 66, of James Street, Plainville, died at his residence on Sunday, March 22, 2015. Born in Norwood, Massachusetts on August 23, 1948, he was a son of the late George Calvin and Mary Ellen (King) Hurd. He resided in North Attleboro until moving to Plainville. He was a graduate of King Philip Regional High School. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps having served from May 21, 1968 until his honorable discharge on January 16, 1970. He was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device, the Vietnam Service Medal with One Star and the Combat Action Ribbon. Upon his discharge he was transferred to the Marine Corps Reserve. Mr. Hurd was employed by the former Foxboro Company as a technician for 35 years. He was a communicant of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, North Attleboro. He enjoyed visiting Twin River Casino, Raynham Park Dog Track and the Plainridge Race Track His favorite pastimes included fixing things around his home, fixing cars and adopting greyhounds. He leaves his children: Richard Edward Hurd and his wife, Lisa M. (Bellhumeur) Hurd, of Plainville and Ann M. Hurd and her companion, Andres Zapata, of North Attleboro; two grandchildren: Brendan J. Hurd of North Attleboro and Amanda M. Faverman of Bellingham; a great granddaughter: Hailey Larson of Bellingham; his former wife: Linda M. (Famiglietti) Hurd of Rumford, RI his brothers: Robert G. Hurd and his wife, Grace R. (Johasansen) Hurd, of North Attleboro and Allan Hurd of Brockton; several nieces, nephews, extended family members and many dear friends. Visitation has been respectfully omitted. A funeral procession will leave the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro on Monday, March 27, 2015 at 1:30 PM for a 2:45 PM chapel service with military honors at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, MacArthur Boulevard, Bourne with the Rev. Father Warren W. Morris, Jr., officiating. Burial will follow. There will be no services in the funeral home prior to the cortege leaving for the cemetery. Please omit flowers. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Beacon Hospice, 182 North Main Street, Fall River, MA 02720.
