Ross H. Kingston

December 13, 1960 — May 23, 2011

Ross H. Kingston, 50, of Woodward Avenue, Seekonk, died on Monday, May 23, 2011 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Barbara A. (Sylvia) Kingston to whom he was married on July 30, 1980 in Attleboro. Born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island on December 13, 1960, he was a son of the late Raymond and Ruth (Hodson) Kingston. He was the beloved son-in-law of William and Mary Jane (Dunham) Sylvia of Attleboro. He was raised and educated in Seekonk where he was a member of the Seekonk High School Class of 1978. Mr. Kingston resided in Seekonk for 45 years having moved to the community from Pawtucket, Rhode Island. He was employed as an architectural woodworker for many years having worked for a number of years most recently for the Walter Furman Company in Fall River. A quiet, private man with a wry sense of humor and a sarcastic wit, he was a kind and gentle soul who was much loved by his family and friends. He was an outdoorsman who spent as much time as he could in the wilderness of the Maine and New Hampshire woods. He loved hunting and fishing, taking annual trips for both. He was a member of the Somerset Sportsmens Club. He held his private pilots license, attaining his license at the age of 16. As a fifth generation carpenter, he used his superb skills and love of his craft to build his own home, a replica 19th century saltbox, completing all the detail work himself. He also built furniture and a canoe. Mr. Kingston enjoyed making homemade beer. Always inquisitive with a thirst for learning, Ross was a voracious reader especially fond of historical, aviation and military genre. In recent years, he and his sister began an informal study into old gravestones. They spent many an hour traipsing through old burial grounds, attending lectures on graveyards and piecing together family histories. In addition to Barbara, he leaves two children: Casey E. Kingston, age 23, of Seekonk and Hallie C. Kingston, age 12, of Seekonk; two brothers: Robert Kingston of Seekonk and Rod Kingston of Middletown, Rhode Island; two sisters: Raye Kingston-Kramer of Warwick, Rhode Island and Robin Kingston of Wolfeboro, New Hampshire; his wifes parents, several nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends. Ross was a wonderful son, husband, father, brother, uncle and friend who will be sorely missed, but never, ever forgotten. Those who knew him are the better for it and are invited to attend an open house and memorial gathering celebrating his life on Saturday, June 11, 2011 anytime between 1:00 4:00 PM at the family home at 313 Woodward Avenue, Seekonk. Ross ashes will be scattered by his family at a later date at his favorite location in the woods of Maine.
