Obituary

Rosemarie "Rose" (Stanton) Poisson, 89, of North Attleboro, Massachusetts, formerly of Plainville, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully under hospice care, surrounded by loved ones, on Tuesday, June 30, 2026.

She was the adored wife of the late Robert J. Poisson Sr., with whom she shared 70 blessed years of marriage. Rose and Bob built a life centered on family, devotion, hard work, and love.

Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Rose was the daughter of the late Ruth Lillian (Tohak) Stanton and J. Francis Stanton. She experienced great loss at a young age when her father passed away when she was only 10 years old, a loss that helped shape her into the loving, empathetic, and compassionate woman she became.

Rose grew up in Jamaica Plain and graduated from Jamaica Plain High School in 1954. As fate would have it, a friend convinced Rose to attend a social dance hosted by the USO for service members on Cape Cod, just minutes from where her future husband, Bob, was stationed at Otis Air Force Base. It was love at first sight. Bob was captivated by Rose's blue-green eyes and beautiful smile, and from that moment forward, the two began a love story that would last a lifetime.

By 1961, Rose and Bob had purchased their forever home in Plainville, Massachusetts, where they raised their five children, helped raise two of their grandchildren, and created a loving home for their family and many cherished animals over the years. Rose and Bob were also longtime parishioners of St. Martha's Parish in Plainville.

While raising five children, Rose spent 11 years as a stay-at-home mother, keeping a busy household in order. She took pride in seeing her children off to elementary school each day, creating a steady and dependable home, and during her quieter moments, she volunteered at the library, a reflection of her lifelong love of books and learning.

Strong in spirit and steady in purpose, Rose carried a work ethic that defined much of her life. From the time she was a teenager until her retirement in June 2015 at the age of 78, she worked with dedication, resilience, and pride, retiring as a secretary for the United Auto Workers, Local 1596. But her greatest strength was not measured only by the years she worked; it was found in her unwavering determination, her generous heart, and the quiet way she cared for everyone around her.

Rose loved to laugh and treasured time spent with the people she loved. She found happiness in life's simple pleasures: finishing crossword puzzles, reading novels, relaxing with one of her many animals by her side, sharing her favorite butter crunch ice cream after long beach days with her grandchildren, enjoying a gin and tonic on a summer afternoon with family, and savoring a lobster roll on Cape Cod. These moments reflected so much on who Rose was: warm, easy to be with, and happiest when surrounded by family.

Rose is also remembered for the special moments she shared with each of her children: the individual memories, conversations, and quiet acts of love that made each one feel known, cared for, and deeply loved. She was a beacon of love, security, and warmth, the kind of presence that made everyone around her feel comforted and at home.

Rose is survived by her five children: Robert J. Poisson Jr. of Norton, Massachusetts; Susan Poisson of Attleboro, Massachusetts; Lynne Calderone of North Attleboro, Massachusetts; Cheryl Poisson of Franklin, Massachusetts; and Corinne Flynn and her husband, Mark Flynn, of Attleboro, Massachusetts. She was the proud grandmother of eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Robert J. Poisson Sr.; her parents; and her brother, Arthur Stanton.

In honor and memory of Rose, her family asks that you do something kind for someone else. Offer a good deed, a thoughtful gesture, or a small act of compassion to brighten someone's day. No matter how simple it may seem, kindness was the way Rose moved through the world. While there will never be another woman quite like Rose in this lifetime, her memory can be honored by living as she did: in service and love of others. Carrying her kindness forward is one of the most beautiful ways to remember her.

Private visitation will be held in the Memorial Chapel of Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, North Attleboro, Massachusetts. Private inurnment will be held at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, Massachusetts, where Rose will be reunited with her beloved husband, Bob.
