Rosalie Valerie (Soltis) Lapinski, 93, of Norton, peacefully passed away on Friday, June 17, 2016 at Life Care Center of Attleboro in Attleboro, MA. She was the beloved wife of the late John T. Lapinski who died on May 2, 2007, and to whom she was married on November 28, 1953.Born in Chicago, Illinois, on February 14, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Matthew Soltis and the late Rose (Lorenz) Soltis. Valerie, as she was known, was raised and educated in Chicago, IL, and attended DePaul University Business School. For her first job she was employed at Spiegel Catalog, and then from there she was employed at Marsh and McLennan Insurance Company, both based in Chicago, IL. After moving to California with her husband in 1956, she worked as an administrative assistant at the Danny Jones Law Firm. After holding a variety of part-time jobs while also taking care of her young son, Robert, she then went on to work full time as a medical transcriber-first at St. Francis Medical Center in Lynwood, CA, and from there she worked at Bellwood General Hospital in Bellflower, CA, until retirement. A resident of Norton, MA, since 2006, she previously lived in Compton and Cerritos, CA, from 1956 until 2006. She was a member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Lynwood, CA, where she was married, and later attended Holy Family Catholic Church in Artesia, CA, and she also volunteered her time in both church offices. Valerie met her husband, Jack, at a dance hall in Chicago, and they enjoyed dancing together well into their eighties. She enjoyed Broadway shows, especially musicals, and going to the movies. She was an avid bowler and participated in a number of bowling leagues. She enjoyed dining out and going for coffee. She also enjoyed doing crafts, attending night school to learn about computers and taking cooking classes. One of her favorite pastimes was watching the Food Network, and she was a long-time believer in the value of eating healthy foods. She enjoyed traveling, taking cruises, and her favorite trip was her visit to Sweden and Denmark. She also enjoyed going on airboat rides in Florida with her son, Robert, daughter-in-law, Kristina, and especially her beloved grandson, Brett, until age 91, and she also visited 3 National Parks and 26 states with them over the last 9 years. She leaves her son, Robert J. Lapinski, and his wife, Kristina L. (Johnson) Lapinski, of Norton; and her grandson, Brett R. Lapinski of Norton. She was the sister of John Soltis, Frank Soltis, Joseph Soltis, and Elizabeth "Betty" Soltis, and of two late sisters who died at an early age. She leaves three generations of nieces and nephews, including Phyllis (Fischer) Alu, Jackie Fischer, and William Fischer and their spouses and families in California; and Ronald Soltis, Donald Soltis, and Sharon (Soltis) Korytowski, her Goddaughter, and their spouses and families in Illinois. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend a Visitation on Wednesday, June 22, 2016, from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a Funeral Service immediately following Visitation on Wednesday, June 22, 2016, at 11:15 a.m. in the Memorial Chapel of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home.Children's room is available during visitation and funeral service.Family and friends are cordially invited to attend a Funeral Gathering on Thursday, June 23, 2016, at 12:30 p.m. from the Robinson Chapel of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, followed by burial services at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA, at 2:30 p.m., at which time Valerie will be laid to rest alongside her late husband, Jack.
