Ronald Richmond Paille, 78, of Attleboro, MA died unexpectedly and suddenly on Friday, September 18, 2020 at his residence.
Born in Norton, MA on April 10, 1942, he was a son of the late Raoul J. Paille and the late Elizabeth S. (Richmond) Paille. Raised and educated in Norton, Mr. Paille was a graduate of Norton High School. Further studies include jewelry toolmaking - University of Rhode Island, Providence, RI, and Naval Architecture - Sydney Technical College, Sydney, Australia. He found work at the University of N.S.W School of Chemistry.
Ronnie spent his youth sailing Buzzards Bay, piloting small planes and ice boating on frozen ponds. In 1965 he bought passage aboard the cargo ship Australian Gem bound for a six-week voyage to its home port. This was the beginning of a 16 year adventure of which he recounted often and of which we never tired; Tales of motorcycle adventures and endless stories of the seven years spent living aboard and sailing "Karen", his 28 foot sailboat, in Sydney Harbour.
Ronald returned to Massachusetts in June of 1981, settled down in Attleboro, worked at Augat, Boston Scientific, and found meaningful employment as a Senior Design Engineer. He twice retired from Smith & Nephew in Mansfield, MA. His achievements include BSC Award for outstanding machine design, as well as numerous patents.
Ronald will be fondly remembered for his adventurous spirit, sense of humor, mischievous nature, and quiet manner. Also, for the things he loved: drawing, designing, woodworking, photography, canoeing, sailing, long walks around West Island, writing poetry and reading a good book.
In addition to his former wife, Ellen (Pitsillidi) Paille, he leaves three children: Susanna Kathleen Paille of Salem, MA; April Elizabeth (Paille) Rajala of Attleboro; Olin Edwin Wilfred Paille of Milford, MA; five grandchildren: Camilla, Hazel, Ivy, Avery and Elsie; two sisters: Doreen E. Johnson of Franklin and Linda R. Bury of Norton and several nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
