Roland Gerard Provost

Roland Gerard Provost, 92, of Woonsocket, RI, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at Oakland Grove Nursing Home in Woonsocket. He was the beloved husband of the late Rita Viola (Lamoureux) Provost.Born on September 16, 1925, he was the son of the late Alfred Joseph and Corrine Mary (Beaudoin) Provost.Roland enlisted into the United States Maritime Services in September 1943 and proudly served in the United States Merchant Marines until October 1944 as an Ensign-Radio Office onboard the "Sedalia Victory". He was honorably discharged from the United States Coast Guard on November 7, 1945.He was employed as a Hub and Die Maker and Foreman of the Mold Making Department by the Balfour Company in Attleboro from 1951 until his retirement in 1984. Roland was the President of the Balfour Amateur Radio Club and Ham Radio Station. He was a skilled Contract Bridge player and National Master, and a member of the American Contract Bridge League. He enjoyed gardening, automobile rebuilding, and just about any do-it-yourself home project.Roland was the beloved father of six children: the late Laurent M. Provost; Ms. Michele L. Till of Uxbridge, MA; the late Mrs. Jeanne Greenleaf; Mrs. Lynette Curry of Tennessee; Denis Provost of Somerset, MA; and Alfred Provost of Attleboro, MA. He was the adoring grandfather of twelve grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Roland was the brother of the late Richard Provost and Roger Provost and is survived his two sisters, Mrs. Claire Elliott of Tennessee, and Mrs. Doris Galvin of Attleboro, MA.
