Roderick "Rod" "Cowboy" J. Therrien, 70, of Attleboro, formerly of Rehoboth, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 5, 2014 surrounded by his family at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, RI. He was the long-time partner of his other half, Joan A. Wing, whom he adoringly called "Tootsie". Born in Attleboro on June 16, 1943, he was a son of the late Arthur J. and Leona M. (Dumont) Therrien. Mr. Therrien was a graduate of Pawtucket High School. He was self-employed for many years, and prided himself with owning Florida's largest gift shop during the 1970's. Rod, who was also known as "Cowboy" to many for his love of wearing his cowboy boots, loved gardening, cooking and antique cars. He was also an avid motorcycle rider since his youth. He enjoyed his day trips to Cape Cod with "Tootsie" as they would stop along the way, visiting their favorite shops and restaurants. Family was very important to Rod and he looked forward to his daily phone conversations with his daughter Beth-Anne. He would anticipate her arrival, always having her favorite chowder ready for her visits. Mr. Therrien was a member of the former St. Stephen's Church in Attleboro. In addition to Joan, Mr. Therrien is survived by his children: Frank C. Borges of Cape Cod; Beth-Anne (Therrien) and her husband, Tom Kellher of Coopersburg, PA; Robin J. Therrien of Norton, James Therrien-Jankowski of Florida; stepchildren: Joseph Lynch and Brenda R.P. Mclain, both of Florida; and one sister: Ann Burgeron of Rhode Island. He also leaves his grandchildren: Joshua, Joseph A., Juliette, Jaidyn, Madisson, Nicole, and Joseph; great grandchildren: Devin, Salina-Joy, Luke, Joseph and Jolivia. He was an adoring uncle to many nieces, nephews and had many special friends. Mr. Therrien was the father of the late Eric J. Therrien and brother to the late Norman J., Francis, and Richard A. Therrien. Per request of the family, services will be private Burial will take place in St. Stephen's Cemetery, Attleboro, MA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mr. Therrien's honor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
