Robert J. Wilkinson

April 11, 1946 — May 23, 2025

In Loving Memory of Robert Joseph Wilkinson
April 11, 1946 – May 23, 2025

If you were ever lucky enough to cross paths with Robert J. Wilkinson — Bob, as he preferred — you already know that he had a remarkable way of filling a room with humor, wisdom, and unshakable warmth. On May 23rd, at the age of 79, Bob passed peacefully at The Residence at Great Woods, surrounded by the family he cherished.
Born in New Bedford, Massachusetts on April 11, 1946, to Robert A. and Alice A. (Aubut) Wilkinson, Bob grew up in Plainville, MA. After graduating from King Philip Regional High School in 1963, he continued on to Bryant College, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration — a degree that would serve him well in his dual careers in both military and industry.

Bob’s calling to service came in 1968 as he enlisted in the United States Air Force, and later joined the Rhode Island Air National Guard’s 143rd Airlift Squadron as a Flight Engineer on C-130 aircraft. He served with distinction for 37 years, retiring as a Chief Master Sergeant with over 5,700 flight hours — nearly 200 of those in combat and combat support. He loved every single hour of flying, traveling extensively throughout the world, and often described he couldn’t think of a better life experience than being part of a crew and its squadron. He said the friendship, the bonding, the dedication, and the reliance on each other isn’t matched anywhere. He was known fondly as the BIG GUY by his comrades who also knew he would have volunteered to crew airplanes for the rest of his life had it been permitted!

At the same time, Bob climbed the ranks at Texas Instruments, where he devoted 36 years and ultimately served as Materials Manager for the $500 million Lighting and Materials Control Division. He also gave generously of his time, volunteering for the company’s credit union for over three decades, including 10 years each as Vice Chair and Chair — a testament to his commitment to others, and his belief in people helping people.

Bob didn’t just work — he thrived in motion. He loved being outdoors, especially with a lawnmower, managing his rental properties, and tinkering with his beloved 1966 VW Bug. His pre and post-retirement years were equally full with community volunteerism. He served as a North Attleboro RTM member and as an Electric Commissioner. Bob also served on the Tri-County High School Committee, the Plainville Housing Authority and the Plainville Conservation Commission. As Rhode Island State President of the Air Force Association, he energized the membership and community engagement with characteristic enthusiasm.

Perhaps one of Bob’s greatest joys was the one he shared with his beloved wife Maureen — exploring the world together. Whether traveling abroad or returning to their favorite retreat in the U.S. Virgin Islands, they made adventure a habit, and joy a priority. He also enjoyed spending summer days with his daughter in Dennis Port and Brewster on Cape Cod for much of his life.

Bob’s legacy lives on in those who loved him: his daughter Debra Terrell and her husband Adam, and grandson Braden, all of North Attleboro, MA; step-daughter Katie Tebo, her husband Patrick Alam, and grandchildren Natalie and Philip of Rome, NY; and his step-sons Christopher and Kevin Tebo of Plainville. He is also survived by his sisters and brother — Alice, Vivian, Pauline, Paul, Patricia, and Nancy — along with their spouses, numerous nieces and nephews, and dear friends from every chapter of his life. Bob also shared many years of life and memories with his former spouse Bonnie Wilkinson of Attleboro, MA.

True to form, Bob didn’t want a somber goodbye. Instead, his family will host a Celebration of Life, just the kind of lively gathering Bob would have thrown himself. Stories, laughter, and memorabilia from his rich life will be shared, and all are welcome. The Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, September 6, 2025 at Grazina Event Space, 83 Morse Street 4F, Norwood, MA from 10:30 am – 2:30 pm. Memories and Stories 11 am – Noon. Let us know if you plan to come or if you are unable to attend and would like to share a memory please email: mo7wilkinson@gmail.com .

In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob’s honor may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research directly at: https://tribute.michaeljfox.org/tribute-page.php?id=3239&np=true or to the RING Retirees Association Emergency Support Fund, 705 New London Avenue, Cranston, RI 02920.
After all, as Bob might say — life is meant to be lived with purpose, and celebrated with joy.
