Robert William Travers, Sr., 80, of Attleboro, MA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 2, 2017 at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence, RI surrounded by his loving family. He was the loving husband for more than forty years of Dolores Ann (Tareteta) Travers.Born on December 24, 1936 in New York City, NY, he was the son of Zelma Travers. Robert proudly and honorably served our country in the United States Marines during the Korean War and retained that pride of service throughout his life. He is commemorated at the Attleboro City Memorial. He was the longtime owner of Bob's Barber Shop in Attleboro for more than thirty-five years which he started in a family basement in Lonicut. During his ownership, he met many local families who remained close to him throughout his life. He retired in 2003. A resident of Attleboro for most of his life, he had been a well-respected member of the Attleboro City Council for over eighteen years, a member of Holy Ghost Church, and a past member of the Portuguese American Club in Attleboro where he served as President and Manager and played soccer for the same club. He previously lived in North Ft. Myers, FL. Robert loved playing bocce ball, singing karaoke, bowling, and boating, where he could spend time with his much beloved family and many friends. In addition to his wife, he leaves his cherished children: Robert W. Travers, Jr. of Attleboro, MA; Jane M. Travers of Attleboro, MA; Lisa A. Travers of Attleboro, MA; and Sean M. Travers and his wife, Laurel A. Travers, of North Attleboro, MA. He was the adoring and proud grandfather of Staff Sargent Joseph R. Travers USAF and his wife, Hayley J. Travers; Timothy J. Travers, Mackenzie A. Travers; and Jocelyn R. Travers. He was excitedly looking forward to the birth of his first great-grandchild. Robert leaves many dear friends and his extended family.Family and friends are invited to honor and remember Robert by gathering for a Visitation with Veteran's Honors on Saturday, July 8, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 Noon in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, MA. Burial services will be private.
