Patrolman Robert Bray, Sr., Retired North Attleboro Police Department, 78, formerly of Fales Road, North Attleboro and currently a resident of Narragansett, Rhode Island and North Fort Myers, Florida, died on Sunday, March 3, 2013 at the Hope Hospice House in Cape Coral, Florida. He was the beloved husband of Janice M. "Midge" (Lyle) Bray to whom he was married on June 2, 1956. Born in Attleboro, Massachusetts on August 29, 1934, he was a son of the late Squire R. and Edna M. (Bergeron) Bray. He was a 1953 graduate of Attleboro High School and earned an associate's degree in criminal justice from Northeastern University in Boston. Patrolman Bray served with the North Attleboro Police Department for 30 years prior to retiring. In 1956, he moved from his native community of Attleboro to North Attleboro where he resided until after his retirement when he moved fulltime to the family home in Narragansett, Rhode Island and for many years he and his wife wintered in North Fort Myers, Florida. While residing in North Attleboro, he was a communicant of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church and in later years was a communicant of St. Mark Roman Catholic Church in the Attleboro Falls neighborhood. In Narragansett, Mr. Bray attended St. Mary's by the Sea and in Florida he was a communicant of St. Andrew's Roman Catholic Church. He was a lifelong member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks - Lodge 1011 in North Attleboro. His favorite pastimes included those spent fresh and salt water fishing, hunting in Maine, playing cards, creating memories with his grandchildren and the time spent with his family at the ocean and beach. He will be most remembered as being a devoted and dedicated husband, father and grandfather. In addition to his wife of 57 years, he leaves two sons: Robert Bray, Jr. of Woonsocket, Rhode Island and Roger Bray and his wife, Tara (Rogers) Bray, of Pikeville, Tennessee; his grandchildren: Danielle, Josh and his wife, Krystal, Shoshanna Ford and her husband, Garrett Ford, Sabrina, Rothchild and Zechariah; his great grandchildren: Caleb, Robert III, Riddick and Kiya; a niece: Laurie (Gardner) Bateman; a nephew: Russell Gardner and several extended family members and dear friends. He was the father of the late Raymond Lyle Bray and was the brother of the late Arlene Gardner. Thomas A. Frechette, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Towne Street, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. Following cemetery services an invitation will be extended to join the family for a time of continued fellowship and refreshments at a location to be announced.
