Robert Thomas Smith, 77, of High Street, North Attleboro, died unexpectedly on Sunday, November 11, 2012 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on June 28, 1935, he was a son of the late Henry and Irene F. (Burke) McCarthy. He resided in North Attleboro for the past 11 years having moved to the community from Quincy where he had resided his entire life. Mr. Smith was employed as a machinist for various companies including Electrofix in Plainville. In earlier years he enjoyed candlepin bowling and camping with his family at places including Canoe River in Mansfield and the former KOA in Wrentham. Always the jokester, Mr. Smith enjoyed reading joke books, sharing jokes with others and making up his own jokes. He leaves three daughters: Sandra H. Grace and her husband, John H. Grace, of North Attleboro; Beverly-Ann Gagliard-Lowe of North Attleboro and Vicki L. Smith of North Attleboro; eight grandchildren: Renee Steinberg and her husband, John Steinberg, of Rockland; Kelly A. Grace of North Attleboro; Robert P. Gagliard of Roslindale; Matthew J. Grace of North Attleboro; Andrea M. Smith of Riverside, Rhode Island; Sarah M. Englehart in Florida; Michael S. Englehart, Jr. in Florida and Robert T. Smith-Englehart of Florida; a brother: Paul Smith and his wife, Mary-Ann Smith, of Quincy; a sister: Irene Keenan and her husband, John Keenan, of Quincy, several nieces, nephews and extended family members. He was the father of the late Robert T. Smith, Jr. who died in 1976. Mr. Smith was the brother of the late James Smith, George Smith, John "Jack" Smith, Rita Frowley, and Dennis McCarthy.
